The NPR set of ethics is a emotional manifesto of the vigor these individuals have towards supplying truth free of charge to their greater human family. The abundance amount of explanation that goes towards the mission state-ment if proof the individuals involved are just as curious as Albert Cairo. As Albert describes, he does not merely read theories, he reads them and then researches them into a visual landscape that enables a purer form of un-derstanding and divine truth as it relates circumstantially. Honesty is a value which enriches the entire planet, if we are more understanding and insight-ful of the ways, shapes, and functions of our huge information consumption, we can radically right the wrongs of society thus far. I agree with the notion of “Rational Optimism” and find it very journalistic that Albert Cairo has chosen this headline as his first on this book of Functional Art. It is truly a beautiful picture to envision a world in which this newly founded techno-logical discipline can equip humans with information the media twists. As a millennial, I find that to be a dream come true. A way of putting the spotlight on the background of the truths and beliefs we have accepted as a global society which are not doing good for our existence. To conclude, I highly dig the approach to graphic art being introduced as something “insightful” not picturesque as described by Ben Schneiderman in the book’s introduction. When the evolution of information is quicker than anything precedented since the time of man, it is no doubt a duty to be taken up to allow humans to catch up their minds with the flow of deciphering organized information. I will gladly and proudly take up such a task!

Objective: Let’s inform with print information.Based on your research and sensemaking activities, create a poster that tells the story of your chosen topic to your chosen audience by clearly and concisely presenting both quantitative and qualitative data you found on it. The overall design should describe the what, explain the how, and persuade the why of your topic.

Monsanto’s prized product causes gastrointestinal disorders, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Our Our food is poisonous & the

Monsanto’s genes have infiltrated all seeds in the United States, including conventional seeds. The company aims to expand their influence globally despite the people’s resistance.

PHASE TWOPROJECT REFLECTION Information visualizations was an interesting class. Without having had Sign & Symbol, I do not feel I got the heightened experience overall. However it was a useful introductory course to the thought process and contemporary conceptualization of datasets. The book we read during the first two weeks was great (The Functional Art) and I will be referring to the books I purchased for this class in the future definitely. The show and tells were extremely useful and it was informative to see which classmates presented what visualizations in terms of aesthetics and approaches. What I will most take away from the first half of the class is the journalistic approach we were asked to take. I feel that the immense weight of that responsibility as communicative designers needs to be vocalized.

project 2: narrative visualization

Objective: Let’s tell a story with information.

Choose one or two critical aspects of your topic and create a narrative in a digital or sculptural medium. The interface or sculpture you design should be a refinement of your poster’s thesis and is a reinterpretation of form.Digital: Create an interactive interface that allows users to explore the narrative aspect of your topic through feedback to your audi-ence over time. The interface should be cohesive and comprehensive.Sculptural: Create a sculpture that represents intangible information in physical form. The sculpture should represent the quantitative properties of your chosen critical aspect through ‘small multiples’ (see Envisioning Information by Edward Tufte). The small multiples should be an object that reflects a qualitative property of your topic.

○ Subtopic: HEALTH RISKS

○ Audience: PEOPLE WHO EAT....EVERYONE

○ Medium: MOTION, comprised mostly of GIFs (Photoshop). Some use of InDesign

for minor text layouts occasionally throughout a visual short 2-3 minute video.

○ Statement of Intent: The subtopic I have chosen to focus on for the second installation

of the course is Health Risks because of the vast scope pertaining

to it. The topic is where I can provide the public insightful

information useful to them making healthy eating choices. Through

the use of GIFs it will be easy breezy breaking down the cycle of

glyphosate & PCB’s and how it produces into consumed

carcinogens and other debilitating damages to the human body.

PROJECT REFLECTIONFINAL

The second phase of the project was very productive for me. I did a lot of editing and re-editing to get to where I am with the video. The overall experience was helped along with the continuous feedback I sought and received. The project itself was fun and I could have spent a good amount of time on it and eventually created it into a short movie as I had planned at first. I am pleased with the outcome and feel it appropriately correlates with my Infographic Poster.
