Our purpose is to support and further the performance and study of contemporary music. The Joe Zawinul International Music Exchange Program was established by the Zawinul Foundation for Achievement in collaboration with the Joe Zawinul Musikschule in Gumpoldskirchen, Austria, and Musikschulmanagement Niederösterreich to encourage music students to broaden their studies, acquire new skills, and familiarize them with international music school. The Program intends to draw from Joe Zawinul’s personal experiences as an international musician whose classical music roots are based in his early days of music studies in Vienna. The program allows students to benefit from this precious connection. The selected student will receive an all expense paid trip to Vienna, Austria. The Music Exchange Program will be held at the Joe Zawinul Musikschule from June 9 – June 22, 2016 and will include private lessons, master class opportunities, and ensemble performances. Participants will also enjoy a medley of musical and cultural education combined with entertaining sightseeing experiences, including: A tour of the city of Vienna A visit to the Vienna State Opera House The Viennese Organs A jazz club evening A trip to Prater, the city’s renowned amusement park, Various Cultural Events The International Music Exchange Program is an opportunity for all music students in the LAUSD, as well as for all students within the Lower Austria School District Region. One recipient of each country is then selected by the Board Members of the Zawinul Foundation Board in Los Angeles and the Austrian advisory committee, located in St. Poelten. The Selection will be based on the following criteria: USA Guidelines: Applicant must currently be enrolled in high school Applicant must have a valid passport Applicant must be able to read music, chords, and leadsheets proficiently Applicant must submit the Student Application and a Video Audition by the deadline date of APRIL 25, 2016
