TOPICS Topics will focus on the situation in Europe: clinical use of blood components and plasma derivatives; viral markers and screening policies; plasma collection and fractionation ; autologous transfusion ; communication with blood users ; associations and working groups in transfusion medicine and related areas; disaster blood plans and international exchange ; ethical issues ; self-sufficiency/paid and unpaid blood donors. CALL FOR ABSTRATCS Communications related to the above selected topics are invited. The deadline for submission of abstratcs is April 30, 1991. Situated in the heart of Europe, amidst a ring of mountains, is Czechos- lovakia, a small country abounding in cultural traditions. Since time immemorial, the heart of this heart as been Prague, the focal point of the national aspirations and intellectual power of the Czech nation feeding on such sources as the ancient Charles University, the oldest European seat of higher learning north of the Alps. The country's capital is a unique blend of historical monuments spanning a thousand years of the history of the State, from Romanesque times, the Gothic era, Renais-

sance, Baroque, Empire, Biedermaier, art nouveau up to 20th century monuments. Prague, the conservatoire of Europe, echoes with music as well as with the footsteps of strollers walking in its streets under the spell of its glorious past. The language we have inheroted from our ancestors is admittedly hard to understand for the rest of the world but the mysterious speech of Prague is apprehensible to all wherever they may come from, as easy to understand as the gentle hum of the Vltava spanned by bridges which hold together the city vut in half by this, the most Czech of all Czech rivers. Prague is a city of a hundred spires, a city still half immersed in ancient legends, a city of mysterious tales, a city of poets and eternal lovers, a city, whose magic arises from an inimitable union of archaic charm and modern spirit. This city which prides itself on such great men at Charles IV, Rudolph II, Rabbi Loewi, Antonin Dvo~tk, but also a city of the 3rd ISBT Regional Congress, European Region. CONGRESS LANGUAGE The official language will be English. PROJECTION FACILITIES Slide projectors for double projection will be available. SOCIAL EVENTS A number of various social and cultural activities is prepared for the participants. The Ladies' Committee is planning visits and excursions to places of importance and interest in and around Prague. ACCOMODATION Accomodation will be available to suit the needs of all delegates. EXHIBITION An industrial exhibition with the latest laboratory equipment and products will be arranged in the immediate vicinity of the lecture hall. For information please contact the Administrative Secretariat. GETTING TO PRAGUE Prague is situated in the centre of Europe and can be reached by road, rail and air. Air services are available from almost all international airports to Prague either directly, or through Frankfurt.
