    INFOSHEET

    About 400 people, including staff,leaders and kitchen team, born in about 11 countries will come to Vartsikhe in

    Georgia this summer to take part in the 2nd National Scout Jamboree and 20th

    Anniversary of Scouts of Georgia.

    We are really, truly looking forward to meeting you all there!So, what to expect, how to prepare yourself....? Well, there are differentaspects of it. Lets begin with

    Vartsikhe - a village in Georgia, Imereti region, Baghdati. It is located in Imereti lowland, at the junction of rivers

    Khanistskali and Rioni. It is situated at an altitude of 80 meters and 17 kilometers away from Baghdati. According

    to 2002 years census data, this village is populated by 1942 people. An active church is Virgin Marys Church.

    In place of this vil lage there used to be one of the most important cities of Kingdom of Egrisi during the earlier

    Middle Ages(Greek sources name the city Rodopolisi, while the Georgian ones identify it as Vartsikhe,Vardtsikhe).

    It is first mentioned in VI century Byzantine sources. Because of its advantageous geographical location, Vartsikhe

    was very important strategically, as well as economically. There even existed an important international trade

    route. In the middle of 6th century, during the Great Egrisi War the authorities changed frequently. The city wall

    was breached for the first time before the Iranians attack in order to prevent it from becoming a playground of

    future enemies. In IX-XI centuries the city developed tremendously. In the late Middle Ages Vartsikhe was one of

    the places where Kings of Imereti resided.

    On the villages territory there is one of many arrays of Ajametis wildlife refuge, Vartsikhearray(the area being

    1106 ha). Vartsikhe Dam is built on river Rioni, near the village. Another engineering construction found in thevillage is Ajameti canal, which ends in Zestafoni regions village - KvedaSakara.

    Travel by bus/metro = 0,5 GEL (22 eurocents), Bread = 0,6 - 2.5 GEL (27 eurocents 1 Euro), Pint of Georgian beer

    = 5 GEL (2 Euro), Visit to European style/level bar (with food) = 40 -50 GEL per person (20-22 Euro), 0.5 l bottle of

    water = 0.7 GEL (30 eurocents), bread = 0.7 GEL (30 eurocents) etc.

    Taxi: you can stop taxi everywhere in the street by waving your hand. Average price for taxi is about 0,6 GEL per

    kilometer, DONT PAY MORE

    Travel options to Georgia:

    If you want to travel overland you can take bus from Istanbul and get to Kutaisi (cost about 50 ).

    There is also night train and bus from Baku and mini-busses from Yerevan (cost about 10-25 ).

    From Batumi International Airport to Vartsikhe is approximately 160 km., 2h 12 min travel.

    Visas

    The citizens of the countries of European Union as well as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, USA, Japan and

    Switzerland do not require visa for entering Georgia. They will get their passports stamped at the

    airport.

    The citizens of Russian Federation would have to obtain for visa at the airport.

    There will be three sub-camps on the campsite. Along with the overall camp program, each sub-camp will also

    Opening and closing ceremony, Hiking, Outdoor games, Horse riding, Eco program, Archeological workshop,

    Georgian workshops: cookery course, national dance course etc. , extreme sport: water rafting, Georgian National

    sport and games, Educational program.

    CLOTHING(Clothes suitable for anything between 10 and 30 degrees Celsius for 10 days. Expect climate change,

    the weather forecast may give you a clue of what to expect)

    Fee for the participants:

    80 euro for the camp(August 6-16 );

    10 Euro for one day of home hospitality in Tbilisi or Batumi Before/after the camp(including food, travel and

    accommodation);

    Participation fee includes internal travel,food and accommodation.

    For IST members:

    Registration fee is 60 Euro for the camp,10 Euro for Home hospitality.

    Registration fee will be paid on the camp site itself, while registration.

    Important! Please inform us if you would like to have a home hospitality, when and where in advance.

    What would we like to know from you?

    The dates of your arrival and departure. Where will you arrive and from where will you leave. From where we should provide transportation to the campsite.

    SOMETHING ELSE AND IMPORTANT!

    Official language of the camp will be English, Russian and Georgian; There will be no mosquitoes in the camp site, consequently you do not need any insect repellent; Please be sure to have travelling insurance in the dates of your staying in Georgia; You will be able to have an internet connection in the camp, but it will cost some amount of money and

    for every group will be limited hours.
