Greetings Nakshatras (2014-15 Batch)
It has been the tradition of CAT-Theni to nurture the best and serve the farming
community to improve their livelihood. Last year has seen tremendous growth in
infrastructure facilities which will ensure that CATians are better skilled than most
of the brethren. Our teachers have done a wonderful job in making CAT-Theni the
most happening place in TNAU.
Credit goes to our students for excelling in all spheres of curricular and co-
curricular activities. Your seniors, the Yakshas brought us glory by being selected to
Post Graduate courses through entrance exam conducted by school of Post
Graduate Studies, TNAU Coimbatore, while three of them are pursuing their M.Sc.
(Ag) at Central Agricultural University, Meghalaya.
Our students performed well in Prabandaz (2015). They also won the coveted ICT
football trophy held at AC&RI, Madurai and Freedom Trophy held at ADAC & RI,
Trichy. Equaling their peers, our students also won the most prizes in competitions
conducted by Nehru Yuva Kendra & Malarum Velanmai Foundation.
All these goes to prove that CAT-Theni is coming of age and could match up to the
already established campuses.
In order to better serve the student community, CAT-Theni management is sponsoring
IAS coaching, certificate course in yoga, enrolling into student group insurance and
facilitating certificate courses in Agriculture offered by TNAU.
CAT management is committed to the welfare of its denizens and will strive to
improve in future.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT & FACILITIES
It gives me immense pleasure to understand that CAT-Theni surpassed all
expressions issue in all-round progress and achievements of various activities in the
college. This year has passed in a flurry of achievements. I would like to take this
opportunity to congratulate all those who have worked hard to ensure success.
I am happy to see the bar is raised even higher by our students each year, as new
batches exceed previous batches. I pray that god continues to bless this college as
well as all the members of CAT, including the staff, students, parents and all those
associated with this institution.
MESSAGE FROM TRUSTEE & SECRETARY
MR. VIJAY BALARAMANM.Sc. (Engineering) (UK)
Managing Trustee
College of agricultural Technology was started in the year 2010 affiliated to Tamil Nadu
agricultural university (TNAU). It was founded by the eminent scientist
Dr. K. Balaraman .His dream and vision is to “Empower Agriculture” through
education, research and service to benefit to the farmers as well as develop new-
Agri. education entrepreneurs.
CAT as its fondly called has a vast campus spanning around 600 acres. The college is
striving hard to produce meritorious students every year. These students are given
good exposure and opportunities of learning practically both at the campus and in
the farmers’ fields. CAT is equipped with good number of eminent faculty members,
well-equipped laboratories, library, hostel, orchards, fields and other facilities to
help them in their development.
Innovative technology used for teaching to help the students in their practical
learning and development. CAT teaches the students the “cultivation of character”,
& to be creative and innovative.
The college proposes to expand to multi disciplinary activities and practicing crop
improvement, self-employment, & entrepreneurship.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT & FACILITIES
It has been an interesting year at CAT. Since the reporting of SWESMA’14 much has
transpired. The students strength has grown from 358 to 436, before it reaches
its full capacity in 2015. This has been a boon to campus, making it more vibrant and
much happening place. Amenities have been improved much to the desire of its
denizens. The net cropped area has increased to 60 ac with diversity of crops
showing an upward trend. Yoga has been introduced to the fresher’s and seventy six
students have enrolled for ODL courses. The gross pass percentage has improved
even though the role of juniors has to be propelled. The teaching faculty has shown
an increase and reached its full capacity.
Alumni “Yakshas” donated musical instruments and thus a musical troupe has been
formed paving way for future CATians’ to develop a musical band. Against 13ICAR
rank holders in 2014, this year saw a rise by 20% to 15 rank holders. It is indeed
heartening to note that Mr. S. Saravanakumar (BSA 11-1531) was placed 13th in
overall rank and would indeed enter IARI, New Delhi another CAT first.
The management of CAT led by indefatigable Dr. K. Balaraman, Ph.D. has been the
implementation of several infrastructural facilities, guest lecturing facility,
equipments and implements etc. not to be undone Mr. Vijay Balaraman, Member
Board of Trustees & Secretary, Madam Mrs. Niranjani Vijay have been instrumental
in providing much needed WiFi Connectivity, provision of sports goods, gym facility in
hostels and excellent catering arrangement. Always for the welfare of the students,
CAT Management gave a fitting farewell to Aviskars (2011 batch) on 20.05.2015.
The students on their part have been hugely resourceful by participating in all events
and garnering prizes, citations as needed. For the first time in CAT history, the ICT
football cup was won along with one silver and one Gild medal in athletic events.
Impressive performance was revealed in PRABANDAS 2014, Pongal telecast by DD
Chennai, malarum Melanmai, Nehru Yuva Kendra Poem Compitition, Vollyeyball
tournament at Ramakrishna Vidyalaya, State level Kho-Kho tournament and finally
winning the triumph held at ADCACRI, Trichy. The staff have conducted the club
events with pomp and galore and a new event Tamilum was celebrated which will be
cornerstone of CAT’s contribution to local flavor. Major events like club inauguration,
CINCOF’14, Sports Day and College Day were celebrated with Daffodils winning the
Overall Championship.
All this goes to prove that SWEAMA’15 will go down the memory lane as a must have
reminiscence for all CATians.
