ZOILA SABEL CCERES BARREDA(1871-1954)
Zoila Sabel Cceres Barreda is born in Tacna on June 17,
1871.Since childhood she played the piano, wrote poems and was
engaged in painting. She was named for its highly educated part of
the teachers at the school where she studied, but he chose to
travel to Lima, the city where she graduated as an educator.
Nacida en Tacna el 17 de junio de 1871.Desde pequea tocaba el
piano, escriba poemas y se dedicaba a la pintura. Fue llamada por
su alto nivel cultural a formar parte de las maestras del colegio
donde estudi, pero prefiri viajar a Lima, ciudad en la que se gradu
como educadora.
BIOGRAPHYIn 1910 she led the Peruvian Lyceum which was director
and owner. In her work as a teacher always she showed their
advanced ideas in addition to their convictions patriot during the
occupation of Tacna. In 1904 she faced the Prefect of Tacna who
intended to close the school. From that moment Zoila Sabel School
was targeted by the Chilean authorities, who finally warned her to
leave their land within 48 hours. She moved to Arequipa where
founded the School of Women "Maria Parado de Bellido".
En 1910 dirigi el Liceo Peruano del cual fue directora y
propietaria. Dentro de sus labores como maestra mostr siempre sus
ideas de avanzada, adems de sus convicciones de patriota durante la
ocupacin de Tacna. En 1904 enfrent al Prefecto de Tacna quin
pretenda cerrar la escuela. A partir de ese momento la escuela de
Zoila Sabel estuvo en la mira de las autoridades chilenas, quienes
finalmente la conminaron a dejar su tierra en 48 horas. Se traslad
a Arequipa donde fund la Escuela de Mujeres Mara Parado de
Bellido.Her personality and idea of living in freedom awoke
comments, envy and even the nickname "The repatriated". On June 7,
1915 the School prepared to celebrate the sacrifice of Francisco
Bolognesi, but the ceremony was interrupted by the civil, church
authorities and the students were forced to stand in the procession
of Corpus Christ. For Zoila, the love of country was eternal and
universal, the curia Arequipa declared atheist. It polemicised in
the press defending her point of view, until she was finally
excommunicated.
Su personalidad y su idea de vivir en libertad despertaron
comentarios, envidias y hasta el apodo de La repatriada. El 7 de
junio de 1915 la Escuela se preparaba para celebrar la inmolacin de
Francisco Bolognesi, pero la ceremonia fue interrumpida por las
autoridades civiles y de la Iglesia y las alumnas fueron obligadas
a presentarse en la procesin de Corpus Cristo. Para Zoila, el amor
a la patria era eterno y universal y la curia arequipea la declar
atea. Polemiz en la prensa defendiendo su punto de vista, hasta que
fue finalmente excomulgada.In 1921 she was appointed Director of
the Normal School of Young ladies of Arequipa, where she worked
forty years as a teacher. In a demonstration of May 5, in 1926, she
was wound according to historian Jorge Basadre. She visited her
homeland clandestinely through dangerous and little-traveled
roads.She returns to Tacna, free of the Chilean occupation, where
she died on November 17, 1954.
Zoila Cceres is also considered a pioneer of the feminist
movement in Peru.
En 1921 fue nombrada Directora de la Escuela Normal de Seoritas
de Arequipa, all trabaj cuarenta aos como maestra. En una
manifestacin del 5 de mayo de 1926, fue herida segn el historiador
Jorge Basadre. Ella visitaba su tierra natal en forma clandestina a
travs de caminos peligrosos y poco transitados.Regresa a Tacna,
libre ya de la ocupacin chilena, donde muere el 17 de noviembre de
1954.Zoila Cceres es, adems, considerada una de las pioneras del
movimiento feminista en el Per.
