initial idea for music magazines

I am thinking of basing my magazine from hip hop/rap genre as this is what I am interested in

so I can relate more to my magazine that I will make. I am not yet sure which magazine

company that I will emulate but I have a few in minds such as ‘Vibe’, ‘Hip Hop’ and ‘XXL’

which are all good magazines that are based on hip hop/rap that I can identify.

All these magazines have a

lot in common. They all have

Male artists as their main

image on the front cover. The

reason for this is that hip hop

is seen as a more masculine

genre. All this main images

sees the artists showing

attitudes which refer back to

the genre of hip hop. They

are very rebellion and

aggressive.

The fonts on the

masthead’s and cover

lines are also very

aggressive and have a

huge impact on the reader

just like the image. They

are bold and outlined so

that they’re very clear to

read but also catch the

attention of audience.

The house style in all these

magazines are very

consistent which shows

how organised they are.

However they all consist of

similar colours such as

white which represents

purity and red that

represents blood, money,

fame, crime which all refer

back to the theme of hip

hop and rap. The colours

also allow the other

features of the magazine to

stand out.
