Inland Empire Community Newspapers • January 10, 2013 • Page A3 Eisenhower High School hosts Inland Empire Shoot Out By Naomi Bonman F ootball season has come to a close, and basketball season is back. Every year the top teams in the Inland Em- pire participate in a Shoot-Out. This year’s Great Inland Empire Shoot-Out was held at Eisen- hower High School in Rialto. It was a two day event that started on Friday, January 4th and ended on Saturday, January 5th. This year thirteen basketball teams from high schools across the Inland Empire participated in the Shoot-Out. These schools in- cluded Eisenhower, Martin Luther King, Summit A,B, Miller, Santiago, Etiwanda, Damien, St. Anthony, Carter, Citrus Valley, Canyon Springs and Cajon. Out of all the teams that participated, there were only two girls team that were in the Shoot-Out this year, and that was Eisen- hower and Santiago’s girls basketball teams. They played against Santiago on Friday, but unfortunately they took a lost with a score of 68 to 30. This puts Eisenhower’s girls basketball team at a 11-4 record. Other teams that played on Fri- day was Summit vs. A.B. Miller. A.B. Miller won and the final score was 70 to 52. Martin Luther King also played against Eisen- hower on Friday with Eisenhower taking the win with a final score of 65 to 62. On Saturday the first game was Canyon Springs vs, Cajon with Cajon beating out Canyon Springs for a final score of 64 to 41. Citrus Valley won against Carter with a score of 55 to 46. A.B. Miller scored another win against Rialto with a final score of 69 to 46. Chino Hills also won against St. Anthony with a score of 76 to 55. Damien won against Eisenhower with a final score of 60 to 42, and Etiwanda won against Martin Luther King with a score of 59 to 32. In every game there is always a player that sticks out from the rest and plays a stellar game. Damien High School Sophomore, Jeremy Hemsley scored 19 points, which was a big help in Damien’s win against Eisenhower. Damien was able to come up in the second half making this Damien’s fifth straight win. Damien now holds a record of 12-2. “I love playing them (Eisen- hower),” Damien coach Matt Dunn said. “They play so hard and are so tough here. It’s a great experience for our guys since we’re such a young team.” Eisenhower’s head coach Steve Johnson adds, “They played a solid defense and made it tough on us.
