Transporting packaging units from the packer to the palletizer often features frequently changing loads in continuous duty or intermittent operation. For this reason, not only the continuous load, but also acceleration and deceleration must be taken into account. The optimal solution for this transportation task is a drive system with universal, intelligent networking and an impres-sive overload capacity. The large speed setting range with a constant continuous torque allows the number of versions used to be reduced to a minimum.

Generally, a suspended transport system is used to supply empty PET bottles to the filling process. The bottles are transported through the air to the bottler by a guide rail. Fan stations with directly mounted variable-speed motors at defined intervals are used as a drive. In order to ensure a continuous material flow, these motors are primarily run in continuous duty. That’s why the focus in this area is on energy-saving drive systems. SEW-EURODRIVE’s DR.. motor series features an LSPM (Line Start Permanent Magnet) drive whose properties make it ideal for use

Conveyors for transporting items in wet areas

From supplying empty bottles to transporting bottles after they are filled, materials handling

technology is essential to both returnable and disposable bottle systems. This requires drive

technology that is both flexible and energy-efficient, as well as intelligent drive networks.

In wet areas, drives are generally operated with virtually constant load conditions at a speed that is flexibly adapted to the overall process. However, high peak torques are needed in or-der to handle special operating situations for specific applications. In addition to purely functional requirements, subjects such as hygienic drive designs without fans and high resistance to aggressive cleaning agents and disinfectants must be taken into account in wet areas. The MOVIGEAR® mechatronic drive system based on a synchronous motor with a large speed setting range and an impressive overload capacity offers an optimal solution for transportation tasks.

Energy saving and CO2 reduction are the objec-tives for the modernized line 2a of the Austrian Coca-Cola bottling plant. In the area from the shrink packer to the palletizer, PET bottles from 0.3 to 2 l fill quantity are processed. The public utility Wien Energie GmbH has been involved in the conception of the complete renovation right from the start with detailed energy consumption calculations to achieve the best energy efficiency possible for this system.

The comprehensive drive technology from SEW-EURODRIVE installed effectively contributes to the energy and CO

2 savings this plant is aiming for.

Tested and confirmed by Wien Energie GmbH: – Total energy savings of around 75% by using

40 MOVIGEAR® units with SNI (Single Line Network Installation) technology throughout, along with other measures in the controls such as speed optimization and improved shut-down when jams occur

– CO2 reduction of about 41,000 kg/year

– SNI technology allows for energy and data transmission in one standard cable, which reduces the number of components and minimizes the installation effort.

As a result, Coca-Cola made increased use of the MOVIGEAR® mechatronic drive system after moving into its new plant in Edelstal, Austria. A total of over 200 MOVIGEAR® SNI units are now used there to ensure smooth operation during transportation of bottles and packaging units.

In addition to resistance against heat, moisture, cleaning agents, etc., the MOVIGEAR®

mechatronic drive system has been proven to optimize the energy balance and to

reduce the operating costs due to its improved overall efficiency. The following application
