Mayka version 6 is the latest complete CAM software on the market for PicaSoft.
Even though we offer our users more and more functionality, Mayka still preserves a simple and friendly user interface, which automatically makes the users jobs easier to perform. The powerful facilities combined with the ease of use, according to our existing customers, makes Mayka a pleasure to use.

Cutting, Engraving & Carving
Mayka directly manages paths created by llustrator, Coreldraw, or other eps vector formats.
All the facilities needed for:- centreline cutting, pocket machining, radial and hatch fill, contour offsetting. All the tool forms:- conical-flat, conical-radius, cylindrical, hemispherical, ballnose etc are available. Inner and outer pocket sides are detected automatically. Finishing is easily defined by choosing the ridge (scallop) value or the increment of the surface finish you want and where you want. To optimise the quality of cutting, you can choose the cutting direction within the following options:- along a particular axis, criss-crossed, round spiral, elliptic spiral, square spiral, helical, zigzag, around the silhouette… Cutting limited to the bounding box Cutting limited to the silhouette of the object Cutting limited to the users selected area

Cutting limited to the undercut
In all the strategies, Mayka allows you to automatically limit the cutting of the model to the partition line in the view of the tool, thus saving a lot of wasted time.
This strategy can be applied toroughing or finishing passes. It machines the part using successive2D contours that are extracted fromthe model automatically by Mayka. Vertical walls can be finished duringthe roughing process to make it easierfor the finishing tool. (As theeffective tool cutting lengths are quiteoften too short).

Plunge cutting
A rapid roughing process using successive drilling patterns to remove material quickly. A preferable practice for users with soft materials to machine, as it allows the use of extra long tools without causing excessive tool vibration.
Automatic cutting of horizontal faces
Mayka automatically detects themodels horizontal faces so you canselect to cut these areas using pocketmachining with a cylindrical orballnose tool. Where possible the tool overlaps thehorizontal faces to be sure not to missany areas. Mayka can also automatically detectnon horizontal faces of the shape tobe cut in a separate process with theparameters you want. Therefore,saving more time.

For model makers and designers, Mayka includes an automatic part inversion function to enable you to cut both sides of your model with the utmost simplicity. Creation of the block and attachments with facing, contouring and location drilling features make this job really easy. Normally this is hard to do without specially adapted tools to locate the part.
You can place any number of attachments wherever you want, without editing your model. Choose automatic material block creation. Automatically face and drill the block when cutting the first side of your job. Drill the fixture table, invert the part and locate on pins. Cut the second side. …easy!
This way of creation is very fast and using Maykas automatic step by step process, you can start yourmachine tool with confidence.

Mayka allows you to choose your machine tool axis configuration The position and the number of axis you define automatically limits the available cutting strategies.

4 axis cutting
Mayka manages all machine tools with a rotary axis. It can either be a supplementary axis or an axis that replaces an existing linear axis. You can choose to use Cartesian or cylindrical strategies. .

You can choose inside or outsidecutting. Optimised cutting reorganises the toolpath to remove excessive movementsoutside the material. It removesredundant tool retractions to keep thetool inside the material and thereforesaves time. Parts on the rotary axis can bepositioned off centre to avoid toolcollision with the border of the modelwhen you make inside cutting.

5 axis cutting
Simultaneous 5 axis With Mayka controlling 5 axis is as simple as using a 3 axis machine tool! The user chooses the cutting direction by creating local working zones (Cartesian, polar, cylindrical, spherical…). Then Mayka computes the cutter paths over the shape and automatically creates the NC program

When you interactively orientate the tool, draft angles are shown in real time to allow you to correctly and precisely place the cutting zone. The logical way to see what you are going to cut.
Cutting zones are shown with transparency so they are easy to set up. The OpenGL interactive interface allows the position to be defined easily and quickly. You can start the computations immediately, or store them using the included batch processing facility, then start them all simultaneously. Saves waiting at your computer !

When you work with 5 axispositioning, Mayka allows you touse all the available strategies in thelocal coordinate system of yourchoice So, horizontal face cutting becomesthe cutting of faces parallel to thedatum of the local zone Z-constant cutting, profiling,projection, etc now work alonglocal z-axis … In fact you can use all the 3 axisstrategies available to you:-contouring, pocket machining in thelocal plane of your choice. Just select your view and flip thezone to that view.

Many geometrical transformations are available to make life easier, especially as models can come from many different sources:- -Translation, -Scaling along each axis, -Symmetry across any plane, -Rotation around where you want, -Duplication arrays… All can be applied to your model or tool path in 3, 4, & 5 axis.
Symmetry & Deformations
The cutting processes are defined in each method zone and these parameters can all be saved as a scene since they are not necessarily dependant on the model being cut. So scenes are reusable to automatically create the NC program for other models that are of similar size and form. You just need to open your scene, add a new model, adapt the size of the cutting zone if needed. Then Mayka does the rest and in a few moments the new tool paths are ready.

Pictures cutting
Mayka opens bitmap format grey scale pictures as 3D shapes. You can easily define the size and height of the grey scale of the picture. This cutting technology has been created by PicaSoft during the early 90’s and is now used by many other companies. However, it is included as standard with all Mayka versions.

Lithophanes Lithophanes originated in Europe in the early 19th century. The name is derived from the Greek words lithos (stone) and phane (appearance).This process was first introduced in Paris by the Baron de Bourgoing in 1827. (For those of you interested in history) Maykas built in picture technology provides you with an immediate solution to create lithophanes of your choice. The process does not need a real 3D greyscale file. Just cut an original picture in an opaque material (porcelain, wax, plastic, resin…) then hold it upto the light and the transparency of the part will reveal the original picture.
Mayka is not limited to flatlithophanes, it is also possible tocreate lithophanes onto 3D CADshapes.

Application to make scaled model landscapes
Mayka directly cuts point filesespecially the format from IGN(Bdalti of France), PicaSoft willalso look at other formats if youwant. Mayka offers the possibility to remesh a grid of points and create anew STL model file. Features are available to: Remesh, simplify meshes, and slicethe models, as well as all the cuttingstrategies, tool path projection, lowreliefs and bitmap projection. Retouching, deforming andprofiling are also available in theoptional Stenza software, which isdirectly compatible with grids andbitmaps.

CAD Functions
Mould creation
For designs that may require to bemoulded or cast, Mayka offers thepossibility to create draft angles onyour model so it can easily bereleased from the mould. When model making you may needthis facility when the originaldesigner did not anticipate this intheir CAD software. With this facility Mayka builds anew model surface allowing for thecutter geometry you have used. Mayka also allows you to mill boththe positive and negative sides ofthis new model
Although Mayka is a CAM based solution, a lot of users find they cannot easily modify the model files before cutting. Therefore, Mayka has several functions that could be seen as CAD type functions. These are included to make the machinists life easier.

Moulding offset
3D Overlap
When mould making, Mayka enables you to calculate the two halves of a mould with a given clearance for the thickness of the material, all from your one model. In CAD these operations are usually complicated when the tool geometry size is larger than the radius used in the model. The technology of Mayka enables you to automatically carry out these operations without limitation.
When making mating parts likepunching tools and die sets it issometimes difficult to make the 2parts fit together due to the cuttingtools available. To offset the maleand female parts is not sufficient,especially with small corners andradii. In these cases it is necessaryto calculate a new form based onthe cutter path of the first form. PicaSoft developed this technologyfor Mayka whilst maintaining asimple to use interface. An idealsolution to make punches,stampings, embossings etc., withsimplicity and reliability.

Model Spiltting
When models are too large for yourmachine tool, or too complex for thenumber of axis, the only way to makethe model is in several parts. Mayka provides a fast OpenGLgraphical interface that enables you toeasily place the selection zones forthe cutting planes of your choice. Mayka offers the ability to slice yourSTL files, closes the open cut facesand or the holes in the model. CADmodels containing too many facetscan be easily simplified withoutdegrading the geometry of the model,making them easier to handle andfaster to machine. Tools normallyfound in reverse engineeringsoftware. Slicing complex models to bemachined as separate parts is aperfect application for directreproduction or scaled sculptures.

Mayka also allows you to extractthe cross-sections from a complexmodel at the thickness you require,then to place them in an array forexample. Perfect for building adesign from 2D sections that will belaminated together later.

Model Simplification
Mayka can open any size of STL model, only your computers limitations will limit the size of the file that can be opened. In some cases you may find some STL models excessively large to handle easily. Mayka gives you the possibility to reduce the number of polygons by decimation, whilst controlling the required finished quality of your model.

Digitising and Textures
Textures can easily be obtained by digitising a sample part, creating a texture image with art based software like Adobe PhotoshopTM, CoreldrawTM or other specialist applications like StenzaTM
Mayka offers you all the tools to project them onto your designs.
