INROADSCollegeLinks-Atlanta:AT&T/CristoReyPartnershipINROADSCollegeLinkspartneredwithAT&TtointegratetheINROADS’CollegeLinksprograminCristoReySchoolofAtlanta,supplementingtheirhighlyeffectiveout-of-schoolprogrammingwithwraparound leadershipdevelopment services, includingmentoring,hands-oncareerexplorationand immersion activities with INROADS corporate and community partners. Results from thisexciting partnership are shared in thereportthatfollows.
ProgramActivitiesThe INROADS College Links 2017-2018programyearincludedmorethan94hoursof training, development and hands-onactivitiesunderthenationalthemeUnlockYourPSAs:Passions,Skills&Abilities.CristoRey students receivedweekly afterschoolsessionsonsiteatCristoReyinadditiontojoining the other College Links-Atlantascholars at the monthly SaturdayDevelopment Sessions and the JuneNationalCareerAcademyinBaltimore,MD.MonthlyDevelopmentSessionsMonthly Saturday Development sessionswereheldattheGeorgiaPacificBuildingindowntown Atlanta. Cristo Rey studentsbeganattendingtheDevelopmentSessionsin January 2018, including the followingtopics:
o January 13, 2018: Presentation
Skills&MentorOverview-CristoRey students received program orientation and introduction to the other College Links-Atlantascholars.
o March10,2018:TeenSummitattheYMCA-CollegeLinks-AtlantascholarsattendingtheCoalition of 100 BlackWomen’s Teen Summit at the YMCA, which featured sessions onhealthyeatingandcooking,financialliteracy,mentalhealthandfitness.
o March31,2018:CollegeLinksVirtualMentorHangout-CristoReyscholarsjoinedthenationalCollegeLinksaudiencefortheCollegeLinksVirtualMentorHangout,whichprovidedscholars with access to professionals in a variety of career fields. Five simultaneousconference calls took place for the following fields: Science & Engineering, Health Care,Technology,LawandBusiness&Entrepreneurship.EachhangoutwasledbyaModeratorwithtwotofourmentorssharinglessonsthathelpedthembecomesuccessfulandansweringscholarquestions.

o April2,2018:CorporateVisitwithDeltaAirlines-Technologyandengineeringscholarsparticipated inacorporatevisitatDeltaAirlines,whichfeaturedDeltaemployeessharingcareerinformationonmarketing,finance,andthemanagingthecustomerexperience.
o April14,2018:GoalSetting&ElectronicResume-Scholars learnedthe importanceofsetting goals and various goal types and established their own long-term, short-term orspecificgoals.Theyalsolearnedhowtocreateandpresentanelectronicresume.Thegroupworkedontheirfinalteampresentationincludingbrainstormingathemeandassigningroles.
o May12,2018:GoalSettingPart2&FinalGroupProject-Scholarscontinuedtheirworkongoalsetting throughagroupVisionBoardactivity.Theycreatedgoals for theNationalCareerAcademy(goalsforthegroupvs.individualgoals).ThegroupalsocompletedtheirfinalvideoprojectfortheNationalCareerAcademy,includingfinalizingthescriptandvideoproduction,which also includedadiscussionon sample careers in the film industrywithActorCedricPendletonandINROADSAlumnusPhilippsSimone.
AfterschoolSessionsAfterschool sessions were held at Cristo Rey onWednesdays after school. The topics for thesesessionsexpandedonthetopicspresentedattheSaturdayDevelopmentsessions,including:

o February14&152018:Finance–MoneyMattersParts1&2-Thefocusofthissessionwasonfinancialresponsibility,strategiesforprioritizingpurchases(needsvs.wants),costcomparisons,andbudgeting.
o February21,2018:MoneyManagement-Studentslearnedmoreaboutmanagingmoney,homeownershipandinsurancethroughaseriesofwealthmanagementvideosandcasestudyreview.
o February 28, 2018: Interest and Investing - Students learned about the stockmarket,interestratesandcompoundinginterest,investingprinciples,investingforyouthandtypesofinvestments.
o March7,2018:PeerPressure-Studentswereengagedinstoriesaboutsuccessfulteensandyoungadults,includingadiscussionofdesiringtofitin,thepotentialnegativeeffectsofsuccumbingtopeerpressure,andtheimportanceofspeakingup.
o March14,2018:IntroductiontoCollegeRoadMap-Througharoadmapactivity,studentslearnedthetasksthatarerequiredtoreachcollege.Theyalsoreceivedanintroductiontoscholarshipsandgrants.
o March28, 2018:Mapping andTeenOrganizations -This session exposed students tomembershipandleadershipopportunitieswithteenorganizations,andhowtousethisasastrategytostandoutwithcollegeapplications.
o April11,2018:CollegePrep-Studentslearnedwhattoconsiderwhenchoosingacollegeandplottedouttheirtargetcollegeslist.
o April18,2018:FinancePart1–Studentswereintroducedtosettingbudgets,creatingaplanandbeingfinanciallyresponsible.
o April25,2018:FinancePart2–Studentswereengagedtoexplorefinanceterminology,managingdebt,creatingaplanforaspecificpurchase.

o May2,2018:GoalSetting–Studentsdiscussedtheirpersonalgoals,learnedmoreaboutgoalsettingthroughaTEDxvideo,andlearnedaboutcreatingvisionboards.
o May9,2018:Visioning&GoalSetting–Studentscontinuedtheirdiscussionofplanningandsettinggoalsandhow to createdigital visionboards. Using their currentgoals, theycreatedphysicalvisionboards.
o May16,2018:GoalSetting(specific targetNCA)–Learning tosetspecificgoals foranupcoming event/activity and how it relates to beingmore effective and efficientwas thethemeofthisgoalsettingworkshop.ThescholarshadtodesignpersonalandtacticalgoalstocreateasuccessfuloutcomefortheJuneNationalCareerAcademyatMorganStateUniversity.
NationalCareerAcademyFiveof theCristoReystudentswereamongthe110highschoolscholars thatparticipated in theinauguralNationalCareerAcademy(NCA)fromJune20-28,2018atMorganStateUniversity.NCAhadthefullsupportofthevenuehost,MorganStateUniversity,includingthePresident’sOffice,theHonorsCollege,theEarlG.GravesSchoolofBusiness,theSchoolsofEngineeringandArchitecture,theSchoolofGlobalJournalismandCommunications,theSchoolofComputer,Mathematic&NatureSciences,UndergraduateAdmissionsandResidenceLife.Participantsreceivedmorethan50hoursofbusinessandSTEAM(Science,Technology,Engineering,ArtsandMath)trainingandteambuildingactivities,including:
o TheFindingYourPassionWorkshopSeriesprovidedsixhands-onworkshopsinsupplychain,capitalmarkets,engineering/architecture,biomedicalresearch,amocktrial,andvideoproduction.
o TheDressforSuccessFashionShowshowcasedbusiness-appropriateandstylishcollegiateapparel for males and females ages 14-19. As a part of the College Links impressionmanagement curriculum,we sought to draw connections between confidence in physicalappearance and success in educational settings, interviews, internships, and entry-levelpositions.Eachofthe19models(twowereCristoReystudents–La’RenziaHendersonandMarquelJones)receivedtheoutfitsthattheymodeledtotakehome.Fifteenstudentshadtheopportunity to support theFashionShowbehind the scenesasproductionandwardrobeassistants.25studentsreceiveddoorprizesofJCPenneyprofessionalaccessories,includingnecktiesandbowties,walletsets,dresssocks,purses,andearringsets.
o TheCareerWorkshopSeriesfeaturedworkshopsonGallup’sStrengthsQuestAssessmentforfreshmenandsophomores,theSTARTechniqueforResumesandInterviewsforjuniors,andtheINROADSInternshipforseniors. AlloftheCristoReystudentsparticipatedintheStrengthsQuestAssessmentworkshop.
o EachstudentparticipatedintwoofsixCorporateVisitstoUnderArmour,BaltimoreCenterStage,LockheedMartin,U.S.SupremeCourt/D.C.SuperiorCourt,JohnsHopkinsUniversity,and Stanley Black & Decker. Students were able to receive mentoring and advice fromemployeesinavarietyofcareerfieldsduringthesevisits.
o TheMid-AtlanticUnityDayBBQ:TheNetworkYouNeed,ToGoWhereYouWant,hostedbytheINROADSAlumniAssociationandtheMid-AtlanticRegion,providednetworkingtrainingforscholarsandinteractionwithINROADSAlumniandcurrentINROADSInterns.

o TheConfidenceM.O.D.E.(Mastery,Obstacles,DeterminationandExecution)KeynotewithCoach Jena Burgess and Joey Price helped students learn how to evaluate and build thecomponents of their own confidence in gender-based sessions that explored the distinctdifferencesbetweenwomenandmenwhenitcomestotheirrelationshipwithconfidence.
o The Hack<IT> Upstart Powered by STEMBoard and INROADS, a coding and pitchcompetition thatallowsstudentstodevelopinnovativetechnologysolutionstochallengesfacingtheircommunitiesandcountry, included tracks for cybersecurity, electrical engineeringandentrepreneurship. Students in each trackwere awardedmedals for 1st, 2nd and3rd placeteams,witheachfirst-placeteamreceivinga$500prizefortheirpitch.
o Companion events for the Hack<IT> Upstart included the Opening Session: SolvingCommunity Challenges with STEM, with INROADS CEO Forest Harper, Morgan StateUniversityPresidentDr.DavidWilson,MayorofBaltimoreCatherineE.Pugh,andLockheedMartinExecutiveRainiaWashington.TheclosingFiresideChat:FindingYourPassioninSTEAM and Business featured Brittany Young (B-360) Aisha Bowe (STEMBoard) andBrandonAndrews(ValuesPartnerships).
o AwardsforleadershipandtheHack<IT>UpstartwerepresentedtoscholarsattheAwardsSoiree,aculminatingeventforNCAandtheCollegeLinksprogramyear.
o Scholarsreceivedopportunitiesforleadership,teambuilding,andpublicspeakingpracticethrough opportunities to emcee, introduce speakers, and participate in evening ScholarLoungeactivities.ElectedstudentleadersledtheirpeersintheCollegeLinksTownHall,aclosingdebriefingsessiononthelastday.

Ten(10)studentsfromCristoReyofAtlantaparticipatedinINROADSCollegeLinks-Atlantaduringthe 2017-2018 program year. College Links-Atlanta gathered the following demographicinformationonstudents:
• Classification:70%werefreshmanand30%werejuniors.• Gender:Participantswere70%maleand30%female.• Ethnicity:80%wereAfrican-American/Blackand20%wereHispanic/Latino.• SchoolLunch:90%wereeligibleforfreeorreducedschoollunch.• HouseholdIncome:40%hadhouseholdincomesinthe$25,000-$49,999range.• ZipCodes:Studentsresidedinthefollowingzipcodes:30012,30083,30087,30152,30291,
30297,and30314.ThestudentswereunderthedirectionofCristoReyfacultymemberAlexisJohnsonthroughflyerdistributionand information sessions. Thirteenstudentswere initially recruited,but threewereunabletoparticipateduetotransportationandschedulingissues.

Eightstudentsregularlyattendedtheafterschoolsessions.Initially,freshmenandsophomoreswerethetargetforrecruitingasitwasdeterminedthatthispopulationshadablockoftimeonWednesdaystoattendtheafterschoolsessions. Toensureenoughstudentswereparticipating, the targetwasexpandedtojuniors.Thesestudentswerealreadyfulfillingtheworkrequirementsoftheschool’scurriculumandwerenotalwaysabletocommittotheWednesdaysessions.EightofthetenstudentsonthecurrentCristoReyrosterplantoreturnforthe2018-2019programyear.
ParticipantFeedbackandSuccessStories
The Cristo Rey students integrated well into College Links-Atlanta and as a result of theirparticipationintheprogramtheyhavebecomemoreconfidentandreceivedexposuretoinformationandresourcesthatsupporttheirdevelopmentandgoals.
o New Information: CristoRey students shared thatCollegeLinks sessionsprovided themwithnewinformationandnewwaysofthinking,andgavethemideasonwhattheycouldaccomplishintheirpresent-daylivesandinthefuture:
o “This session (College Road Mapping) sparked more interest in STEAMprograms/activities,whichwillhelpprepareme.”
o “CollegeLinkshasbeenmostvaluabletomebyhelpingmecreateaclearpathintomyfuture.”

On the pre-survey, students stated that they had low knowledge of public speaking andfinancialliteracyskills,andmoderateknowledgeofhowtoplanforlifeafterhighschool.Onthepost-survey,thestudentsgavethefollowingresultswhenaskedtoansweriftheyknewmuchmoreknowversuspre-programonalistofsubjects.
o StudentEngagement:CristoReystudentsfoundtheCollegeLinkssessionstobe“importantandinteresting”and“ausefulwaytobuildrelationshipswiththeirpeers.”Theylikedthatthesessionswereinteractiveandengaging:
o “The sessions were always interactive and engaging and I feel that I am not onlylearninglifelongskillsthatwillmakemesuccessful,butIamalsoattainingtheseskills.”
o NCA Impact on Future: 99% of scholars agreed (with 54% strongly agreeing) that the
workshoptopicsandcontentcoveredduringNCAprovidednewinformationtocontributetotheirprofessionaldevelopment.95%ofourscholarsstatedthattheycouldapplywhattheylearnedtoenhancetheirperformanceasaninternorinanacademicsetting.
o NCAStudentTestimonials:WhenaskedhowparticipatingintheNationalCareerAcademyaffectedtheircareer,educationalandpersonalgoals,thetopfiveresponseswere:improvednetworkingskills,providedclarityonchoosingacareerpath,boostedconfidence,helpedtoovercomeshyness/improvedpublicspeakingandpresentationskills,andinspiredtopursuegoals.

o SuccessStories: § ManyoftheCristoReystudentsbegantheprogramveryshyanddidnothavestronginterpersonalskills.ByMay,theCristo Rey students were standing outfrom the others, including some of thesecond year students, during theSaturday Development sessions. Theywere exuding confidence andwere thefirst of the students to volunteer tospeakoracceptroleswhenasked.§ La ‘Renzia Henderson, a freshman atCristoRey,wasextremelyshywhenshefirst began the College Links programand had difficulty maintaining eyecontact.BythetimeoftheNCAinJune,shehadgainedconfidenceandimprovedpresentationsskills,andwasamemberoftheHack<IT>Upstartteamthatwonfirst place in the entrepreneurshiptrack. Her team received individualmedalsandaprizeof$500fortheirpitchon The Sweet Sixteen Switch –a chip-operated device that blocks cell towerconnections from vehicles to preventanydistractionsfordrivers.

ThepilotprogrambetweenINROADSCollegeLinks,AT&TandCristoReywasasuccessfulventure,resultingingrowthandnewopportunitiesfortheparticipatingstudents. INROADSCollegeLinkswasabletoestablishapositiveandefficientworkingrelationshipwithCristoReyofAtlanta,whichhas laid the foundation for future work together. There are two areas of consideration forstrengtheningtheprograminthefuture:
o Opportunity for Increased Interaction with AT&T:We would like to expand on ourpartnershipwithAT&TbyintegratingtheERGsintoprogrammingasspeakersandmentors,andhostsfor jobshadowingopportunities. Wecouldadditionallyusesupportfor in-kindspaceforprogramevents.
o AfterschoolSessionFrequency:DuetotheworkrequirementsembeddedintotheCristo
Reycurriculum,thefrequencyofafterschoolsessionsmustbeconsidered.Thefreshmenandsophomorestudentsdonothaveasmanyrequirements,resultinginspaceintheirschedules.As students progress into their junior and senior years, their schedules may notaccommodateweeklyafterschoolsessionsduetotheirinternshiprequirements.

WewouldliketothankAT&TforallofitssupportofINROADSCollegeLinksandlookforwardtocontinuingourpartnershiptoserveandprepareemergingleadersfortomorrow’sworkforce.
