    Music ale #3

    Inside concert report

I had gone to see LaGuardias production of their third and final musical of the

school year on June 12th at 6:00. The program for the night consisted of performances

by Elementary orchestra under the direction of Mr. Joseph Meyers, Elementary Chorus

and Mixed Chorus under the direction of Mr. Deepak Marwah, and Junior Orchestra

under the direction of Lucinda Santiago. This concert consisted of many different styles

of music and was by far probably the most diverse and interesting Musicale that I have

attended at my years here at LaGuardia.

Elementary Orchestra, under the direction of Joseph Meyers, had opened the

show with the Finale, from String Quartet, Op. 64. no. 5 by Franz Joseph Haydn. It is

very interesting to hear Elementary Orchestra perform because for many of them it is

their first time performing on stage. It is so nice to see the dedication that goes into

creating this music and to see the fresh talent that has been accepted into this school.

The environment for this opening ensemble was very nostalgic. The room was full of

high energy and proud parents who were excited to see their children perform on the

LaGuardia stage. The second ensemble to take the stage was Elementary Chorus,

under the direction of Deepak Marwah. Elementary Chorus had a refreshing number of

42 boys! This was fantastic and contributed greatly and effectively to their sound. The

boys sounds was fantastic and at a great level of musicianship. These young men will

shape our schools choruses beautifully if they continue to do well for themselves. The

choice of selections for this ensemble was very interesting as well. Mr. Marwah had

constructed a set that included great spirituals and arrangements of modern dayselections such as Ho Hey! Both of these ensembles were amazing in their first

    performances.

After the two mentioned ensembles above had performed, I began to feel the

concert hall, and myself become a bit saddened. Mixed Chorus, under the direction of

Deepak Marwah took the stage and the members of this ensemble include

Junior/Sophomore/Senior boys and Junior/Senior girls. For some boys and girls in this

ensemble, this was their very last performance on the LaGuardia stage, contrasting with

the first performances on the LaGuardia stage for the first two ensembles. The

selections for Mixed Chorus were absolutely beautiful and sentimental to all the

performers as you could tell by their faces and emotion. Mr. Marwah truly outdid himself

with concert and beautifully conducted the choir. I believe the choir could use a bit

greater use of dynamics, but that would be my only complaint. It has been great to see

the tenor section grow beautifully into the sound they made last night from their first

    performance.

For the last selection for the set of chorus ensembles, Elementary and Mixed

chorus had performed a piece together. This added to the great emotion in the room

already and there was not a dry eye in the concert hall. It was amazing to see a group

whose first performance was that night, and an ensemble who had grown together

throughout the past year or two perform for the last time together on that stage. This

Musicale was truly moving and I am very proud of my schools work that came from both

my peers, and my teachers. Only in a school like LaGuardia can you find such

    breathtaking talent.
