From Pastor Melinda…

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Does anyone else think that summer went too fast this year? It seems like we had winter, then some warm weather, and now it is time for school to begin! That being said, there are many activities and events

taking shape to kick off the fall schedule at Faith! I encourage you to carefully read this issue of the Pathfinder for all the details and join us!

There are a couple of other items I’d like to mention:

The Call Committee finished the Ministry Site Profile (MSP) and it has been submitted to Bishop Finegan!

I continue to pray for a new pastor to provide leadership in your minis-tries and walk alongside you in your faith journey.

Also, at the 2019 ELCA Churchwide Assembly which was held from Au-

gust 5th-10th in Milwaukee, the ELCA Churchwide Assembly adopted a resolution that, among other things, declared the ELCA a sanctuary de-nomination. So what does this mean for Faith?

According to Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, talking points have been prepared, “to provide a better understanding and further clarification on what

sanctuary means for you and your congregations. We acknowledge this will look different in different contexts across the ELCA.” (Bishop’s email to pastors 8/14/19)

You will find those talking points in this issue of the Pathfinder (Pages 4-5). You may also view them online at:

https://download.elca.org/ELCA%20Resource%20Repository/ELCA_SanctuaryDenomination_TalkingPoints.pdf

As we discern what this means for the people at Faith, we are to remem-

ber, most importantly, these words from scripture: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave

me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. “ – Matthew

25:35

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some

have entertained angels.” – Hebrews 13:2 “The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the

fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.” – Psalm 146: 9

I continue to pray for you and your faith journey.

who have not attended in a while will not be present on lists gathered for birthdays or anniver-saries. Also with something like this there are bound to be a few mistakes or errors. So if you no-

tice someone’s name was not on one of these lists and you would like to have them added, please contact Sean in the church office weekdays 9am-2pm or by telephone at (906) 632-7246

It’s coming soon...The Annual Bazaar & Luncheon

The Women of Faith will host our annual Bazaar and luncheon on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

We are asking for your donations of food items (salads & desserts) for the luncheon and baked items

for the bake sale as well as handcrafted items (sewn, knitted, crocheted, etc.) for the crafts booth, and those things you no longer use or display for our Attic Treasure’s room. The non-food items will be accepted several days before the Bazaar and the salads, desserts & goods for the bake sale the

day before or morning of. Please contact Joy Lake at 632-3133 to volunteer to make a salad.

Tickets will be mailed soon and we ask that you sell them to your families, friends and neighbors. They will also be available in the church office.

This is an event that has been held for many years and is the women’s group (WELCA) main fund-raiser. The money we earn is used for helping fund various needs for the church, as well as donating to needy community groups, the ELCA and to provide lunches following member fu-

nerals.

Many hands will be needed on the day of this even. Please let us know if you can help in any way. Page 6
