WHC Board Appoints Nominating CommitteeThe Board of Direc-tors has approved the com-mittee to nominate a

slate of Board members for terms com-mencing June 2015. The Nominating Committee is comprised of Sherry Bindeman Kahn – Chair, Kim Block, Roger Mermelstein, Lynn Sachs, Aaron Stopak, Richard Sussman, and Nancy Zeidman.

The Nominating Committee shall not hold its first meeting prior to the expiration of ten days following the mailing to the members of the Congre-gation of the names of persons serving on the Nominating Committee. The report of the Nominating Committee containing its nominees for officers and members of the Board of Direc-tors shall be mailed to the members of the Congregation at least forty-five days prior to the Annual Meeting. Any thirty members of the Congregation may submit additional nominations

for officers and members of the Board of Directors by written communica-tion addressed to the President at least twenty days prior to the Annual Meet-ing. Regarding the announcement of his appointment on the anniversary of Brown v. Board of Ed., Mr. Brooks said, “As a graduate of both Head Start and Yale Law School, I am a beneficiary, an heir, and a grandson, if you will, of Brown v. Board of Education. My life is the direct product…of the blood, sweat and tears of the NAACP.”

Prior to his position at the NAACP, Mr. Brooks served as president and CEO of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, senior counsel for the Federal Communications Commission, executive director of the Fair Housing Council of Greater Washington, and as

a trial attorney with the Lawyers’ Com-mittee for Civil Rights Under Law. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Jackson State University, a master of divinity from Boston University’s School of Theology, and a law degree from Yale Law School.

WHC's Teens to Lead Shabbat Service…The 6:00 pm Shabbat service at Temple on Friday, January 9 will feature our teens and Rebecca van Bergen, founder and executive director of Nest — a non-profit organization that works with some of the world’s most promising artisans in some of the world’s most challenging places. During her Shabbat talk, Ms. van Bergen will share how through its

core social values of promoting peace, empowering women, and alleviating poverty, Nest gives people around the world opportunities to better their lives. Nest’s products will be on display in Kreeger Lobby.
