A joint publication of Big Meadows and Pinnacle Place
January 2016
On December 14th, Big Meadows Warming Hearts took scarves to West Carroll Primary School to give to the children. Pictured above on the left are our nurses Jean Kehl and Mary Jane Jacobs with residents Terry Mattison and Marlene Farrey. Pictured on the right are some of the recipients of the Warming Heart Project. We thank all of our residents and staff who participated in making the scarves this year.
Several staff from Elkay came to Pinnacle Place for an afternoon of Bingo, prizes, cookies and fellowship. We sure had a good time!

Big Meadows Highlights Choir Comes to Big Meadows
On December 10th, the West Carroll High
School Choir came to Big Meadows and per-
formed for our residents.
Big Meadows has gotten into the Christmas spirit, we have 20 Christmas trees located around the building. Our TV area, therapy room, nurses’ station, dining room, and all of our hallways are decorated to keep us in the spirit of the season. Pictured above and below are just a fraction of our Christmas trees and decorated areas. Special thanks to our residents and activities director Jaime Zastrow for all the beautiful trees and decorated areas.
Christmas Card Gifting On December 9th, the residents made Christmas cards to send to a little girl named Safyre Terry. Safyre has been in the national news early in December. She is an 8 year old burn victim who lost her family in a fire. All she wanted for Christmas was Christmas cards, so to help Big Meadows sent her eight cards. Pictured to the left are the Christmas cards and to the right is Joann Perez holding one of the cards she made.

gloves and hat for winter outings, as weather permits.
+Please mark any new clothing a
resident may get for Christmas or
anything new brought in. Be sure to get an ‘Additional
Inventory Sheet’ paper from staff to fill out if you bring
in anything new. It is a 1/4 sheet of green paper and
can be turned in to the front office. Thank you!

Connections Announcements
Big Meadows is collecting plastic caps/lids to make a bench for the Connections Unit courtyard. We are going through a company called Green Tree Plastics, LLC. You may have seen some of these benches around. We ask that you start saving and bring what you save to Big Meadows. We need 400 pounds! What does that look like? The caps will fill approximately 10 55 gallon yard waste/trash bags! What items are acceptable and what aren’t? Acceptable caps: medicine bottle caps, milk jug caps, detergent caps, hair spray caps, toothpaste tube caps, deodorant caps, drink bottle caps, flip-flop caps (ketchup, mustard), spout caps (mustard), spray paint caps, ointment tube caps, caps with Recycle numbers 2, 4 or 5. Acceptable lids: cottage cheese container lids, mayonnaise jar lids, yogurt lids, peanut butter jar lids, ice cream bucket lids, cool whip container lids, coffee can lids, cream cheese container lids, butter container lids. Never acceptable items: metal or trash of any kid: drink bottles, plastic ziplock bags, trigger sprayers, fast food drink lids, food containers, soap pumps, lotion pumps, grocery bags. If you have additional questions, please contact Stan Schleuning at Big Meadows at 815.273.2238. Thank you and start saving!
Big Meadows Announcements continued………...
The Connections Unit has got the holiday spirit. Pictured on the left is the Christmas tree in our living room area, and pictured right is our fireplace where all the stockings are hung with care hoping St. Nick will soon be there.
