Editors Note:
A Happy New Year to all. As we enter 2016, a year of new
challenges and endeavors, take a moment or two to look
back at 2015 and its ups and downs. We learn from our
past so we can improve and succeed in the future. During
my working years for the Electrical Utility I always had a
friend to turn to for guidance, advice or a good time. That
friend was and still is the Electrical Council of Florida. In
our last newsletter I presented an article on “Why I belong
to ECF”. ECF has a lot to offer its members: give it a try
and see the difference ECF makes.
Like always, I enjoy coming up with a safety tip to pass on.
This holiday season at my house we started decorating
early. That required many trips up and down from the attic.
Bending and lifting ‘oh my.’ So I thought of an article on
rules of good lifting that I previously presented in 2010.
Throughout the newsletter you will see several announce-
ments and changes. For example, HD Supply is now Anix-
ter displaying their new add. Don’t forget on Tuesday,
January 19th, ACT is holding its Annual Membership
Breakfast. You will also find our Chapters’ updated Appren-
ticeship Incentive Initiative document. To commemorate the
lifelong dedication Roger Scroggins gave to the electrical
industry, the initiative is proudly renamed the Roger
Scroggins Apprenticeship Incentive Initiative. A donation
from the EGA was received in Rogers’ name for the Incen-
tive Initiative. The Central Chapter prides itself in being a
supporter of education, which is another good reason to
join ECF and support its General Membership meetings
and outings. On December 14th, Iris Price was the winner
of the Holiday Gift Card raffle. Congratulations to Iris and a
job well done to all who sold tickets. Again, Ron Terry gets
a thumbs-up for selling the most tickets: great job Ron.
Keep in mind with 2016 starting, it would be an ideal time to
participate in the ECF Central Chapter Sponsorship. Re-
view the three levels and pick the right one for your busi-
ness. Remember the Sponsorship is for members and non
members. The Sponsorship Levels have a lot to offer and I
know there is one right for you. The Program Committee
has great plans for 2016 starting off in February with a
lunch meeting covering Work Place Violence Prevention
and Active Shooter Response. In addition our lunch meet-
ing Spot-Light Table will be presented by United Electrical
Sales. Well that’s it for the time being, so keep a look out
for our flyers and reserve your seats. I will be looking for-
ward to seeing you there: you know me, the guy behind the
camera.
Yours truly
John R. Ewen
