I have been wearing glasses for over half of my life. My first task before rising each day is to
put on my glasses. The very last thing that I do before retiring for the night is take them off.
I suspect that this puts me in good company with many of you. Now, I can walk around
without my glasses and find my way, but I cannot read anything whether far or near. Fur-
thermore, everything just looks fuzzy without my glasses.
As a Christ-follower, I wear a form of spiritual glasses through this life. Yes, I can see with-
out them as many obviously do; but once I found these spiritual lenses (rather, Christ put
them on me), I can hardly go without them. In fact, if I wear them according to the message
of Christ, everything I see is different through these lenses. Here are some examples:
I see myself differently.
I see my family differently.
I see folks that I have never met differently.
I see people who are not like me differently.
I see government differently.
I see the past and future differently.
I see the present differently.
Now, the problem that I face is that I want to take my glasses off on occasion and look at
the world through an alternative set of lenses. When I do this, I make many mistakes and
tend to drift; I start viewing people with judgment rather than mercy and myself as not
good enough, instead of saved by grace. I am convinced that this world needs us to see it
differently and in this we will once again become effective in our witness. No, this does not
mean that we declare that anything goes. It does mean that we make sure that the world
understands that the God who made everything, loves His creation and wants to know and
be known by Him.
As we celebrate the Resurrection this year, I hope that you will make sure that your Christ
-lenses are on so that you can best share the good news with this world.
Peace,
Pastor Jeff

The attendees of the 2016 Women's Retreat at the Caraway Conference
Center in Sophia, NC were blessed throughout the weekend by the teach-
ings of Pastor Bev Coppley. Pastor Bev led the ladies to a place where they
learned to discern God's will by connecting important spiritual practices
with traffic signs. The Stop sign encourages us to take time to be still and
learn to communicate with the Creator. The Caution sign tells us to be
aware of our current temptations and acknowledge them before God so
He can help us overcome them. The Yield sign reminds us to surrender
things that are hurting our relationships and trust God to help us. The Go
signal tells us to walk out our faith step by step with Jesus by our side. Ses-
sions were also filled with music, ice breakers and testimonies of God's
goodness. Small group meetings helped the women to get to know each
other on a deeper level. The food was delicious and the free time fellow-
ship was sweet. Sunday morning communion together in the chapel was a
precious way to conclude this mountain top experience. We hope you'll
join us next February!
Preschool Update by Melicent Hammaker It is so obvious spring has arrived. God has blessed us in so many ways. The pink blossoms on
the trees in front of the church are always my first sign spring has arrived. I look at them and
always thank God for His new beginnings. We wanted to share with you a new beginning that
occurred at the preschool. One of our families is being moved to Oregon due to a change in
employment. When the mother came to us and told us of the move, we talked about the chang-
es that lies ahead for her family. She said due to the nature of her husband’s job they have to
move a great deal. We talked about the difference in Oregon and North Carolina. I asked her
what she thought she would miss most about North Carolina. She said she had lived in many
places throughout the world but what she would miss most about North Carolina is the pre-
school. She said we know better how to love children than anywhere else she has lived. I was so
touched by her kind words and I told her that is the greatest desire of this church and this pre-
school is that our children and families know they are loved by God through us. We just wanted
to share with you because you are a part of this preschool and God has answered one of our
prayers. This family has already left us but I told her we will continue to pray her family knows
God’s love. I thank you for being a part of what we do. God’s blessings are apparent in the
change of weather and in how He shares His love through us.

ney through Confirmation. In the next months they will be

you to Mary Jo Juran who has been co-leading Confirma-
tion, using her gifts and sharing wonderful insight. As well,
thank you to the Confirmation mentors who are walking
alongside these youth.
PSALMSUPPER: Mondays @ 6:00pm-7:30pm
At Allen's Dairy Treats
Our High School youth continue on their journey through
the book of Psalms, studying a psalm each week. We will
finish up Book II of psalms (ends with Psalm 72) by the end
of the Spring semester. Maggie Richmond recently shared
on Psalm 66, talking about God's Tower and His salvation,
relating it to the Lord of the Rings (so cool!). Cullen Whitt
shared on Psalm 67, thanking God for His blessings, and
how we are blessed to be a blessing. Proud of these youth
and their dedication to God's Word and growing their
roots deeper in Christ.

Maple Springs is a place where you can discover who you are in Christ. We recognize that following
Jesus is a big decision that has the power to affect all other decisions in your life. We take this seri-
ously and want to be the kind of church that helps to equip you for life. God loves us and has created
us all in his image, which means that we have an amazing capacity for the things of God and that we
are at our best when we are fully who he has made us to be. We want to help you discover who you
are and how you can live the life that God desires! The mission of Maple Springs is to be rooted,
growing, and bearing fruit for Christ. You are invited to join in living out this mission.
