Congratulations to Dean McCorkle who was recognized for the Best Presentation at the 19th International
Conference on Precision Agriculture and Food Security, sponsored by the World Academy of Science,
Engineering and Technology. Dean provided an overview of the work he, Rebekka Dudensing, Dan
Hanselka and Ed Hellman (Horticulture) did on the Economics of Precision Mechanization in Wine and
Table Grape Production. Dean’s presentation was made in New York on June 4th. Thanks for all of your
efforts on this project, and congratulations again!
While our study abroad trips to Ghana, Ireland and Scotland are completed, we still have two programs
underway in France. I mentioned the program in France in the last newsletter, but I’d like to provide an
update. Our five students in Lyon have jointed another 25 students from other US universities (see
picture). This new program is hosted by the Higher Education Institution on Agronomy, Food and the
Environment. Thanks to Dmitry Vedenov for leading our students in this new endeavor. He tells me
things are going well, with students receiving a broad overview of food and marketing systems in France.
But, last week was HOT, with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees, and NO air-conditioning in many
buildings. So, the students are receiving a complete cultural experience along with a solid summer
educational experience!
Have a great weekend!
