Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a top-ranked Hospital Trust based in Surrey, England. Due to a consistently strong performance over several years, Frimley Park Hospital became a foundation trust on 1 April 2005. Since then the trust has been able to invest in further patient services.

The hospital has strong links with the local community through its foundation trust membership of 10,000 patients, potential patients, stakeholders and staff. The trust is developing ways of involving members more and more in the future.

the Requirement

Surgical, anaesthesia and critical care departments are the areas which contribute to the majority of the hospital’s costs and are also the most labour and resource intensive areas of the hospital. Vast amounts of critical data are generated around these high-acuity patients, putting intense pressure on staff to keep patient records updated while at the same time providing high quality care.

the solution

To solve these issues, Insight proposed Picis CareSuite Software. Picis Software offers innovative information solutions that enable rapid and sustained delivery of clinical, financial and operational results in the acute care areas of the hospital.

Insight UK were awarded access to the Buying Solutions Framework as a LOT1 Value Added Reseller in May 2006. This entitles Insight to provide a wide and varying range of products and solutions to public sector clients. Most of these products or solutions fall within Insight’s core capabilities but on occasion due to the scope and diversity of requirements across the public sector; Insight partner with “best of breed” solution providers, like Picis, to ensure that clients benefit from dealing with the experts in specific PS verticals, product and solutions

Frimley Park’s requirements fell outside Insight’s core capabilities, hence Picis was recruited as a subcontractor of Insight.

The Picis software provided by Insight has enabled the clinical staff to automate documentation of care along the patient encounter through the perioperative and critical care areas without having to manually re-enter data, helping to reduce the potential for errors. In addition to this, Picis software will interoperate with other hospital information systems - helping to play a critical role in the progression of electronic health records.

By improving information, analysis and business performance in these areas, Frimley Park Hospital Trust has become more efficient and competitive.
