Joy to the World Advent Sermon Series We are celebrating the 300th Anniversary of Joy to the World. It’s an unlikely popular Christmas hymn. First, it is based on a psalm, and second, it celebrates Christ’s second coming much more than the first. This favorite Christmas hymn is the result of a collaboration of at least three people and draws its initial inspiration not from the Christmas narrative in Luke 2, but from Psalm 98. The result is a favorite Christmas hymn based on an Old Testament psalm, set to musical fragments composed in England, and pieced together across the Atlantic in the United States! Let’s celebrate Advent as we sing and hear the message of this powerful hymn. The Advent Workshop is Today! 2:00-5:00 p.m., Graceland Gym Join us for a fun afternoon as we welcome Advent by making one of a kind ornaments, crafts, gifts, wreaths, centerpieces and more! growAdvent CORE ClassCarols: The Rest of the Story Teachers: Rev. Mike Halleen, Rev. Rustin Comer 10:00 a.m. & 6:30 p.m., Chapel December 4, 11, and 18 (10 a.m. only on 12/18)

The first known Christmas hymns may be traced to 4th-century Rome. The songs we know as carols were originally communal songs sung during celebrations like harvest tide, as well as Christmas. It was only later that carols began to be specifically associated with Christmas. Some of us grew up listening to Paul Harvey on the radio. At the end of his segment he would always say “Now it’s time for the rest of the story.” This intro would be followed by some of the best unveilings of history, and pop culture. As we focus on the 300th anniversary of the carol Joy to the World, there is no better time to hear “the rest of the story,” of our favorite carols. Join us Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Fee: $20 for course material. Register at www.wayzatacommunitychurch.org/winterregistra-tion
