Inspiring the Future
3
• A free and easy way for schools and volunteers from the world of work to connect
• Opens young minds to the vast range of career opportunities beyond their daily experience
• Raises aspirations as to who they can become
• Tackles unconscious career biases
• Based on a UK programme that has been replicated in China, Australia, Bangladesh and Switzerland.
What the UK research found
4
• The research was conducted using a sample of 13,000 primary aged children. It found that:
• Gender stereotyping exists from the age of 7
• Aspirations are influenced by social background
• Parents and other extended members of the family were the most influential in defining children’s career aspirations
• Less than 1% of children stated they heard about the job from a volunteer from the world of work coming in to school.
There is a major disconnect between aspirations of children and the predicted jobs of the future

What is Drawing the Future?
7
Kids are asked to draw an image of who they want to be when they grow up
• 13,000 kids in the UK participated (20,000 worldwide)• The report correlated findings across gender bias, key
influencers, and most popular jobs versus predicted jobs in the future.
• The results were surprising for many, and acted as a motivator for improving connections between school children and the world of work.
• We want to conduct this research in NZ to get our own baseline statistics.
• Drawing the Future was launched by the Minister mid October at Porirua East School

A web platform helps volunteers and schools to connect
11
• Volunteers select their region/area of schools they are prepared to visit.
• They provide contact and professional details.
• They attend a school hosted event and talk to students about their jobs and how they got there.
• Volunteers will be generated from an online marketing campaign and through regional networks such as Chambers of Commerce and Industry Associations such as PICA.
• Children should see people that are just like them, in the world of work. And also Volunteers with careers other than what they might already know about.
Volunteers can help bring learning to life
12
• The School administrator can login to the web platform through their Education Sector Login (verifies and pulls school info)
• Create an event to invite volunteers to – ocean week, science week, tech week, or just a focus on aspirations.
• Search for and invite volunteers to help reinforce learning in the classroom.
• Plan and prepare an event via the online matchmaking tool
• We are partnering with Voluntarily to deliver the toolwhich is currently under development.
