    Kmart Game ON - PC Install (Cellular)

    Overview Your store received a new Dell 780 PC with a 22 flat panel and a sound bar for theKmart Game On project. The PC will be placed behind the counter of the ServiceDesk and is intended for Employee use ONLY. Because the Service Desk is not ADAcompliant, customers are not to have access. The flat panel, mouse and keyboardMUST NOT be accessible to customers.

    This install guide will walk you through the process of setting up the PC and installingthe software. Important,there is a new method for imaging PCs, the steps in thisinstallation guide MUST be followed exactly.

    The Store Manager will designate a Store Associate to install the new web station. Nooutside vendor will be used for the install of this PC.

    Equipment One Dell 780 PC

    One Dell 22 flat panel

    One Dell sound bar (to attach to flat panel)

    One box of cellular equipment containing:o One Cradlepoint (CTR500) wireless broadband router

    o One Sprint Sierra 3G/4G USB modemo Four Velcro strips to attach antenna (puck) and Cradlepoint to the sides

    of the PC

    Surge Protector (store to provide if needed)

    Note: Stores that received their Cradlepoint prior to February do not have the Velcro inthe box. These stores will need to provide it

    Requirements This installation can take place anytime from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST.

    The PC will be installed by a Store Associate in the CBT room (this will takeabout 30 minutes). The imaging process will take an additional 2 hours, butno associate interaction is needed after the imaging process starts. Then the

    PC will be relocated to the Service Desk which will take another 30 minutes. Four electrical outlets on a surge protector will be needed at the Service Desk.

    Hardware Deployment will need to be called after the installation to completethe testing.

    Contact Call Hardware Deployment (see number below) if you have any questions regarding thereceipt, installation, or imaging of this equipment.

    1. The new PC will be built in theTraining/CBT room. Once the build issuccessful, the PC will be relocated to theService Desk.

    2. Locate an area in the training room toset up the new PC.

    Unplug the networkcable from the back ofa working PC.

    Once the build is successful pleaseremember to reconnect the network cableto the PC you removed it from.

    3. Unpack the 22 flat panel and power cable.

    Note: Discard the CD and manuals thatcame with the flat panel. They will not beneeded. You may want to use the poster tohelp with the installation.

    Place the flat panel on a surface with thescreen facing down.

    4. Unpack the sound bar.

    Connect the AC adapter to the power cablefor the sound bar.

    Note: The AC adapter is in a small whitebox located at the bottom of the Dell soundbar box, under a cardboard spacer. Sound Bar

    5. Attach the sound bar by aligning the twoslots with the two tabs along the bottom ofthe flat panel.

    Slide the sound bar to the leftuntil it snapsinto place.

    6. Insert the white DVI cable in the white portand the blue VGA cable in the blue port onthe back of the flat panel (the blue VGAcable may already be attached). Do notforce - if it does not plug in easily, rotate it180. The thumbscrews should be snug -do not over-tighten the thumbscrews.

    Insert the black power cable into the flatpanel.

    7. Attach the stand to the back of the flatpanel by inserting the two tabs on the top ofthe stand into the two slots on the back ofthe flat panel.

    Lower the stand so that it snaps on, youshould hear a click.

    Test to ensure it locks in to the stand.

    Run all cables through the hole in thestand. You will need to pull the White DVIcable through first as it is the largestconnector. The power cord for both the flatpanel and the sound bar will need to bedisconnected, run though the flat panelstand hole, and then reconnected to the flatpanel.

    8. Unpack the new Dell GX780 workstation.

    Note: Discard the manuals that came withthe equipment. These will not be needed.

    9. Connect the cable for the antenna by usingthe tool and screws included with theantenna (puck).

    Important This MUST be installed!

    Note: The installation will be easier if you

    first use the included tool to insert thescrews into the antenna connector, andthen screw it into the PC.

    10. Attach the Velcro that is in the box ofcellular equipment to the bottom of theantenna without covering the serial number.

    Attach the antenna with the Velcro to theleft side of the PC. Take care not to coverany stickers on the side of the PC.

    Note: In the rare instance of a poor wirelessconnection the antenna may be Velcroed ina different location.

    When the PC is powered up, a blue light inthe corner of the antenna puck will turn on.If it is not, check the cable connection fromthe puck to the back of the PC. If theconnection is solid, call HardwareDeployment (see number below).

    11. Place the PC on the counter.

    Connect the cables to the followinglocations. Blue VGA (video) flat panel cable. Network (patch) cable. USB mouse cable (second from

    bottom). USB keyboard cable (bottom port). Light green (audio) cable from the

    sound bar. Black power cable.

    Note: One orange and one blinking yellowlight at the network port (where the networkcable plugs in) should be on.

    Note: The white DVI (video) cable is notconnected to the PC at this time.

    12. Plug in the sound bar & flat panel into asurge protector.

    Poweron the flat panel.

    13. Insert the PCs power cord into a surgeprotector.

    Note: If the PC powers up when you plugin the power, hold down the power buttonon the PC to shut it down until you areready to start the image process.

    14. Power on the PC.The F12 Key must be pressed when yousee the picture to the right. This can beaccomplished if you press the F12 keyevery second after the power is turned on.

    Note: This screen will only appear for 2seconds. If you do not select the F12 keyquick enough, power off the PC, wait 60seconds, power on the PC and press theF12 key every second.

    15. The Boot Device Menu will display.

    Use the down arrow key to selectOnboard Network Controller.

    Press the Enter key.

    If you get any other results power off thePC and retry the previous step, if still thesamecall Hardware Deployment (seenumber below).

    16. The Registration Menu will appear.

    Note: ONLY use the number keys to selectthe options listed. Do not use the arrowkeys.

    DO NOT select Kmart Build Process.If you do, you MUST call HardwareDeployment to have your PC reset.

    17. The Store Number screen will appear.

    Note: ONLY use the number keys to selectthe options listed. Do not use the arrowkeys.

    Type your store number and press theENTER key.

    The PC will reboot after 10 seconds.

    18. The F12 Key must be pressed when yousee the picture to the right. This can beaccomplished if you press the F12 keyevery second after the power is turned on.

    Note: This screen will only appear for 2seconds. If you do not select the F12 keyquick enough, power off the PC, wait 60seconds, power on the PC and press theF12 key every second.

    20. The image process will begin.

    Imaging will take about 2 hours. The PCwill reboot several times. Do not doanything until the Kmart.com site comesup (pictured in step 22).

    21. Do not attempt to log in or interfere withthe imaging process until the Kmart.comscreen (pictured in step 22) appears.

    The flat panel may go into a power savingmode after several minutes. You can movethe mouse to restore the picture.

    If after 3 hours it does not go to theKmart.com screen (pictured in step 22) callHardware Deployment (see number below).

    22. Wait 15 minutes after the Kmart.com siteappears to allow the PC to sync up.

    23. Now that the build is complete the PC willneed to be relocated to the Service Desk.

    CTRL-ALT-DELETE, then click the redbutton (if you get a list of choices, selectShut Down).

    Unplug the networkcable and plug it backinto the PC you removed it from.

    Disconnect the flat panel from the PC.Unplug the power for the flat panel, PC andsound bar and move the PC and flat panelup to the front Service Desk.

    24. At the Service Desk, place the PC underthe counter or on a shelf. The keyboard andmouse along with the flat panel will beplaced on top of the counter and have theircables run through an existing hole youhave in the desk currently.

    Note: You will need to neatly run the cablesthrough an existing hole on your ServiceDesk. Use some zip ties to keep the cablesorganized.

    Also, you may need to remove existingitems like Gift Card stands or circulars sothat the keyboard, mouse and flat panel areaccessible to employees.

    We know that every store does not havethe same Service Desk setup. Please useyour best judgment on the location of thePC. Keep in mind that only Associateswill have access to this PC.

    Note: The Cradlepoint Router will alsobe attached to the PC if the signal isstrong enough (see step 35).

    25. Plug the power, keyboard, mouse, flatpanel, and sound bar cables into the backof the PC.

    Plug theflat panel, PC and sound bar intoAC power. (If you need a Power Strip youcan retrieve one from the floor and have itwritten off for store use)

    Note: If the PC powers up when you plugin the power, hold down the power buttonon the PC to shut it down until you haveinstalled the Cradlepoint.

    26. Unpack the Cradlepoint (CTR500)package.

    27. Attach 2 Velcro strips (included) to back ofCradlepoint (see picture) and ensure theCradlepoint information label is notcovered.

    Do not remove the plastic cover from theother side of the Velcro at this time.

    28. Ensure the Cradlepoint wireless off/onswitch (located to right of USB connector) isin the ON (1) position.

    29. Attach the Faceplate for the Sprint 3G/4GUSB modem:

    Remove the protective film covering fromboth faces of the lens (the circular portion ofthe device).

    Insert the faceplate tabs into the slots asshown on the film covering.

    Press down carefully until the faceplatesnaps into place.

    30. Plug the Sprint 3G/4G USB modem into the

    USB port (located on far left) of theCradlepoint router.

    31. Connect the Cradlepoint power supply to

    32. Connect the provided Cradlepoint powersupply cord to the surge protector.

    33. The Cradlepoint should now have powerindicator on.

    34. The Cradlepoint and Sprint modem cantake up to 5 minutes to establish, negotiateand register the connection.

    Once the Cradlepoint has successfullycompleted its initialization the lights should

    look like the picture (3 green lights and upto 4 blue signal strength bars).

    35. If you have 4 blue signal strength barswhile near the Game On PC:

    Attach the Cradlepoint using the adhesivebacked Velcro to the right side of the DellGame On PC. Be sure not to cover anystickers on the side of the PC.

    36. If you do NOT have 4 blue signalstrength bars while near the Game OnPC:

    Locate the nearest AC power outlet andplug in the Cradlepoint. If, after 5 minutes,you have 4 blue signal strength bars.Repeat this process until you find a locationwithin 100 feet of the Game On PC that theCradlepoint receives 4 blue signal strength

    bars.

    37. Once everything is connected and youhave blue bars on the Cradlepoint, poweron the flat panel and sound bar, and thenpower on the PC.

    The PC will first boot to a CTRL-ALT-DELETE screen. Do not try to log on.After a few minutes, the PC should rebooton its own and recover to the Red Kmartscreen.

    If anything else comes up check thenetwork connections before callingHardware Deployment (see number below).

    38. Test by going to the Associates tab.

    Note: You should hear a click sound fromthe sound bar when you go to theAssociates tab. If you do not, verify that thesound bar is powered on and the volume isturned up to a reasonable level.
