IMPORTANT INFORMATIONnot lock the circuit break-ers in the off position, se-curely fasten a prominentwarning device, such as atag, to the service panel.

• All wiring must be in ac-cordance with national andlocal electrical codes andANSI/NFPA 70. If you are un-familiar with wiring, youshould use a qualified elec-trician.

• To reduce the risk of per-sonal injury, do not bendthe blade attachment sys-tem when installing, bal-ancing, or cleaning the fan.Never insert foreign ob-jects between rotating fanblades.

DO YOU NEED HELP?

To install a ceiling fan, be sure youcan do the following:

• Locate ceiling joist or other suit-able support in ceiling.

• Drill holes for and install woodscrews.

• Identify and connect electricalwires.

• Lift 40 pounds.

If you need help installing the fan, your Hunter fan dealer can direct youto a licensed installer or electrician.

• To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, or motordamage, do not use a solid-state speed control withthis fan. Use only Hunterspeed controls.

GATHERING THE TOOLS

You will need the following tools forinstalling the fan:

• Electric drill with 9/64" bit

• Standard screwdriver

• Phillips-head screwdriver

• Wrench or pliers

OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES

Consider using Hunter’s optional accesso-ries, including a wall-mounted or remotespeed control. To install and use the ac-cessories, follow the instructions includedwith each product.

For quiet and optimum performance ofyour Hunter fan, use only Hunter speedcontrols.

STEP 1 - GETTING READYPREPARING THE FAN SITE

The location of a ceiling fan and howthe fan is attached to the buildingstructure are essential for reliableoperation, maximum efficiency, andenergy savings. For this reason, wehave included a separate booklet —“Guide to Choosing and Preparinga Ceiling Fan Site” — to help youselect the best location for your fan.The booklet also provides informa-tion to ensure your fan support andelectric outlet box meet UL-approvedsafety codes for ceiling fans.

The instructions in this installationmanual assume that you have used“Guide to Choosing and Preparinga Ceiling Fan Site” to pick the fanlocation and make certain the properfan support and outlet box are in-stalled.

CHECKING YOUR FAN PARTS

Carefully unpack your fan to avoiddamage to the fan parts. Check forany shipping damage to the motoror fan blades. If one of the fan bladeswas damaged in shipment, return allthe blades for replacement.

Hint: If you are installing more thanone fan, keep the fan bladesin sets, as they were shipped.

If any parts are missing or damaged, contact your Hunter dealer or callHunter Parts Department at901-248-2222.

INSTALLER’S CHOICE®

This patented 3-position mountingsystem provides you maximum instal-lation flexibility and ease. You caninstall your Hunter fan in one of threeways. The steps in this manual in-clude specific instructions for the fanmounting method of your choice. Fora ceiling 8 feet or higher, standardmounting is recommended.

Flush Mounting (Figure 1a) fits closeto the ceiling, for low ceilings lessthan 8 feet high.

Standard Mounting (Figure 1b)hangs from the ceiling by a connec-tor pipe (included), for ceilings 8 feetor higher. For ceilings higher thaneight feet, you can purchase Hunterextension rods. All Hunter fans usesturdy 3/4" diameter pipe to assurestability and wobble-free perfor-mance.

Angle Mounting (Figure 1c) hangsfrom a vaulted or angled ceiling.

STEP 2 - INSTALLING THE CEILING PLATE

4. Align the slotted holes in the ceil-ing plate with the pilot holes inthe wood support structure. Note:The isolation pads should be flushagainst the ceiling.

1. Drill two pilot holes into the woodsupport structure through theoutermost holes on the outletbox. The pilot holes should be9/64" in diameter.

2. Thread the lead wires from theoutlet box through the hole in themiddle of the ceiling plate.

3. Your fan comes with two neo-prene noise isolators. Position theisolators between the ceiling plateand ceiling by inserting the raisedareas on each isolator into theholes in the ceiling plate. Refer toFigure 2a.

3. You can use either one or two wallswitches to control the fan and/orlights separately. Use connection1 on page 13 to

• control the light with a wallswitch and the fan with achain pull (one wall switch re-quired)

• control the light with a chainpull and the fan with a wallswitch (one wall switch re-quired)

• control the light with one wallswitch and the fan with an-other (two wall switches re-quired)

Use connection 2 on page 13 ifthere is no separate wall switchpower wire for the light fixture.
