To prevent fire, short circuit or shock hazard:

• Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.

• Install the unit in a dry location without infiltration or condensation of water.

• Do not expose it to dripping or splashing.

• Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.

• If any liquid should accidentally fall into the cabinet, disconnect the power plug.

To avoid any risk of overheating:

• Install the unit in a well aired location and keep a minimum distance of 15 cm around the apparatus

for sufficient ventilation.

• Do not place any items such as newspapers, table-cloths, curtains, etc, on the unit that might cover

the ventilation holes.

• The unit must not be exposed to any source of heat (sun, heater, etc.).

• Do not place any naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, on the apparatus.

• Do not install the product in a dusty place.

• Use the apparatus only in moderate climates (not in tropical climates).

• Respect the minimum and maximum temperature specification (-5 – +50°C).

To avoid any risk of electrical shocks:

• Connect apparatus only to socket with protective earth connection.

• The mains plug shall remain readily operable.

• Pull out power plug to make the different connections of cables.

• To avoid electrical shock, do not open the housing of adapter.

• Only use a dry soft cloth to clean the cabinet.

• Do not use solvent on the unit.

• For repairing and servicing refer to a qualified technician.

1.1.1.1. Product OverviewProduct OverviewProduct OverviewProduct Overview

• What is it: The Hills BC84469 is an off-air TV channel processor, with the ability to convert up to 4 incoming

terrestrial DTV clusters to different frequencies if required.

• How it works: The design utilises 4, triple Surface Acoustic Wave filters (SAW) to achieve the desired

selectivity. By employing 2 and 3 channel bandwidth (14MHz & 21MHz), off air signals can be ‘clustered’ and

levels adjusted to equalize the output.

• What it is for: For a small/medium size MATV installations, where expensive channel processors are not

feasible, but equalization of the signal level is desirable before the launch amplifier, to maximize headroom.

• What it is not for: Due to the bandwidth of the SAW filters and conversion technique employed, this system

can’t equalize individual adjacent channels.

• Restrictions: Because of the pass-band shape of the SAW filters, if there is a multi-channel off air signal in

UHF band, the ‘clusters’ need to be ‘offset’ to avoid channel ‘spillage’ interference. There needs to be a one

channel guard-band. The configuration of the clusters can be adjusted to suit the local conditions. One

21MHz cluster, and three 14MHz clusters have been allocated. The first cluster can be programmed to be the

same in-out frequency. The following clusters need to be shifted by one channel upwards to avoid

interference.

• DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) reception: If DAB signal needs to be passed to the cable-network, the VHF

Channels need to be shifted to UHF. The DAB Ch9 & Ch9a need to be passed in the same frequency, because DAB

receivers do not have the ability to tune in different channels. TV tuners do.

• No DAB: If no DAB signal is required, the 21MHz & one 14MHz cluster can be used to process off air signals

and pass it on without conversion. The Ch9 and Ch9a are suitable enough to make a guard-band and prevent

interference.

• Gain: There is a software-controlled gain control built in. This is located in the IF section. To prevent over-

drive, there is a pre-amp circuit which can be switched off if the incoming signal is strong enough. The gain is

controllable by software or manually over-ruled. This needs to be monitored using an instrument like the

Rover meter. To prevent MER degradation, output level needs to be kept to around 90dBuV pending channel

loading.

• Warning: By design, the -30dB test-port has 12Vdc to power the programmer. To prevent damage to the

amplifier or other instruments, you will need to use a DC blocker to check the test port level. (BC71647)
