HOW TO BUYGENUINE STONE

Unlike imitation stone veneers, QuarryCut is 100% natural stone, carefully cutto 1½” thickness, offering today’s discriminating consumers a wide array ofoptions to beautify their homes. QuarryCut stone is easy to install and availablein a rich assortment of colors and styles – as far as the imagination takes you.
Here’s a simple guide to help you choose the ideal stone for your project.
1. Choose your application – Our exquisite stone can enhance almost any surface,from exteriors, chimneys, walls and pool surrounds to kitchens, fireplaces, archwaysand wine cellars. Our one-of-a-kind materials are simple to work with and canaccommodate curves and corners. Take a good look around your home and chancesare, you’ll find lots of areas that can be improved with pure stone.
2. Pick the perfect type of stone – Do you like traditional, country or contemporary?Whatever your taste, there’s a stone for you. Our enormous selection can captureany look you desire, whether it’s a classic farmhouse in field stone or a chic ledgestone chalet. Our guide to colors and shapes begins on the next page, showcasingour entire collection.
3. Select a color palette – Warm browns, rich plums, crisp greys. With so many shadesavailable, you’ll be sure to find the one that reflects your personal style. Choosingthe right color requires lots of thought, so take your time, ask to see samples andpick the best hue to accent your lifestyle.
4. Mix in a custom blend – At QuarryCut, we specialize in blending colors to design alook that is distinctly yours. Add a dash of sparkling mica to turn up the shine orcreate a sophisticated mosaic of earth tones. Almost anything is possible, and we’rehappy to help you explore your options.
5. Dry stack vs. mortar – Our pure stone can be installed dry stack, which means thatthe blocks aren’t pointed with mortar or grout to fill in the gaps. The finishedappearance is simple and natural. You can also choose to use mortar – grout that isadded between pieces of stone to give an aesthetic finishing touch to your project.Mortar comes in many colors and can be applied using techniques to achieve a rangeof looks, from rustic to European. Mortar or dry stack can make a dramatic difference– ask us to learn more.

Cover the wall sheathing with a water resistant barrier, lap joints 4”.Then, per your local building codes, install lath or mesh usinggalvanized nails or staples 6” on center vertically and 16” on centerhorizontally, penetrating the studs a minimum of 1”. Stop lath fromthe finished edges. (Figure 1)
No preparation needed. To ensure that its finished surface containsno release agents (such as form oil), check newly poured concrete. If it does contain form oil, treat the surface with muriatic acid, rinsethoroughly and score with a wire brush. (Figure 2)
Concrete Masonry Stucco – Sealed, Dirty, Painted or Acrylic Finishes
Two options are available:
1. Securely attach lath with concrete nails, or
2. Sandblast or waterblast the original surface then rinse away dust
Install paperbacked 3/8” rib expanded metal lath to metal claddingsupports of 20 ga. to 12 ga. using United States Gypsum Company’s1-1/4” type S-12 Pancake Head Super-Tite screws. Screws mustpenetrate 3/8” beyond the inside face of metal surface. Screwsshould be installed on centers equal to 1 screw/sq. ft. and must notexceed 67” on center in one direction. Apply ½” to ¾” scratch coatand allow to dry 48 hours. (Figure 3)
Please note:QuarryCut thin stone by definition is an adhered stone supported through theadhesion of an approved bonding material applied to an approved backing.
All installations shall follow guidelines of ASTM C926 (Application of PortlandCement-based Plaster) and ASTM C1063 (Installation of Lathing and Furring toReceive Interior and Exterior Portland Cement-based Plaster). Water-resistantbarrier shall be minimum 2 separate layers Grade D paper (ICC-ES AcceptanceCriteria AC38). Lath shall be minimum 2.5 lb. or 3.4 lb. self-furred meetingASTM C847 (Specification for Metal Lath). Weep Screeds shall be installed atbottom of the exterior stud walls in accordance with ASTM C1063.
Verify that all flashings have been installed properly and integrate with the water resistive barrier to prevent water penetration into the structure.
It is important to recognize that QuarryCut thin stone is a natural veneer, afacing attached to the wall for purposes of providing ornamentation. It is notintended as a structural product or a waterproofing element. Most importantly,the real expert is your local building department and local building code. Cover the wall sheathing with a water resistant barrier, lap joints 4”.Then, per your local building codes, install lath or mesh usinggalvanized nails or staples 6” on center vertically and 16” on centerhorizontally, penetrating the studs a minimum of 1”. Stop lath fromthe finished edges. (Figure 1)
No preparation needed. To ensure that its finished surface containsno release agents (such as form oil), check newly poured concrete. If it does contain form oil, treat the surface with muriatic acid, rinsethoroughly and score with a wire brush. (Figure 2)
Concrete Masonry Stucco – Sealed, Dirty, Painted or Acrylic Finishes
Two options are available:
1. Securely attach lath with concrete nails, or
2. Sandblast or waterblast the original surface then rinse away dust
Install paperbacked 3/8” rib expanded metal lath to metal claddingsupports of 20 ga. to 12 ga. using United States Gypsum Company’s1-1/4” type S-12 Pancake Head Super-Tite screws. Screws mustpenetrate 3/8” beyond the inside face of metal surface. Screwsshould be installed on centers equal to 1 screw/sq. ft. and must notexceed 67” on center in one direction. Apply ½” to ¾” scratch coatand allow to dry 48 hours. (Figure 3)
Please note:QuarryCut thin stone by definition is an adhered stone supported through theadhesion of an approved bonding material applied to an approved backing.
All installations shall follow guidelines of ASTM C926 (Application of PortlandCement-based Plaster) and ASTM C1063 (Installation of Lathing and Furring toReceive Interior and Exterior Portland Cement-based Plaster). Water-resistantbarrier shall be minimum 2 separate layers Grade D paper (ICC-ES AcceptanceCriteria AC38). Lath shall be minimum 2.5 lb. or 3.4 lb. self-furred meetingASTM C847 (Specification for Metal Lath). Weep Screeds shall be installed atbottom of the exterior stud walls in accordance with ASTM C1063.
Verify that all flashings have been installed properly and integrate with the water resistive barrier to prevent water penetration into the structure.

It is notintended as a structural product or a waterproofing element. Most importantly,the real expert is your local building department and local building code.
