Installation of WinTRase Software TRASE on windows XP - WinTrase should run natively on Windows XP 32 bit. TRASE on Windows 7 - The supplied CD/USB drive contains instructions on how to run the trase software on Windows 7. This involves setting up Windows XP Mode, which is a feature of Windows 7 Ultimate, Professional and Enterprise. (Basically, a XP Virtual Machine) See: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7 TRASE on Windows 8/8.1 - Running WinTrase on Windows 8 is slightly more complicated. 1. Install the USB-Serial Driver supplied. 2. Install WinRar or similar program. (You'll need to open an Executable Cabinet file - appears as a .exe) 3. Open the WindowsXPMode installer with WinRar, in WinRar open the Sources folder. Then click on the file "XPM". Extract this file. 4. Open XPM in WinRar and extract the file: "VirtualXPVHD" 5. Rename this to "VirtualXPVHD.vhd" 6. Install Oracle VirtualBox or other Virtual Machine software. 7. Set up a Windows XP 32bit system using "VirtualXPVHD.vhd" as the virtual machine's harddrive. 8. Set up Windows XP - This is not a full setup, you'll only have to choose Date/Time and set an Administrator account password. You may have to restart the VM (Virtual Machine) in order to proceed if it appears to freeze after setting these options. 9. Add USB devices/CD Drives to the VM for the USB Stick or software CD and the TRASE system. - In Oracle Virtual Box - Devices dropdown menu -> USB Devices -> Trase USB Stick (Generic Mass Storage) (For the CD setup, select Devices -> CD/DVD Devices -> Host Drive (D:) - Also add the TRASE, this will likely be in USB Devices as "Unknown Device" followed by numbers. 10. These devices should now be accessible from the VM. Open the CD/USB stick and install the USB- Serial Driver (just in case) and then install WinTrase. 10.5 (Optional) - Restart the VM 11. In the XP Virtual Machine, open Control Panel, Select System, then Hardware, then Device Manager. 12. Check the Com Ports to find which one is being used by the TRASE (This should be one of ports 1 through 4) 13. Open WinTrase, click Remote then Setup. Choose the COM port in use by the TRASE. Included is an ICT DVD containing a simplified version of the above for Windows 8/8.1. It contains an already extracted VirtualXPVHD.vhd file, a copy of Oracle Virtual Box as available from: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads WinTrase, USB-Serial Driver and some instructions for setup.
