Introduction
The PlayStation 3 is a gaming console released on November 17, 2006 through the
technology company Sony. The console gives gamers an experience going beyond the
traditional video game play experience, allowing them to enjoy Blu-ray based electronic
media or activating television streaming applications usually found on the computer.
The PS3 can be accessed through a relatively simple process requiring knowledge of
AV installation and power cord plug-ins, which will be provided in this manual. This
technical manual on installing a PlayStation 3 will guide you in the installation process,
making sure you’re able to configure the console to functionality without any major
issues or complications that you might run into.
The steps given in this manual will require you to carefully plug in each cable given with
the system and when operating; set yourself up with the various features the
PlayStation 3 offers including: Netflix/Hulu, PlayStation Network (PSN), Music steaming
capabilities, and the option to browse the World Wide Web inside of the console itself.
The manual is structured based on the moment you purchase the console from any
retail place chosen all the way to navigating the PS3 and customizing it to match your
needs or preferences. Figure 1 below shows you what the overall design of the
PlayStation 3 will look like, with the box including an image of the console to give you a
preview of what you will see when installing the system in your own home. On the next
page, you’ll find a brief task overview giving a breakdown of what you will have to do
when reading the instructions set throughout the manual. The steps inside the manual
involves concise information and detailed graphics that help you gain an understanding
of what is being read.

Task Overview
This manual will require you to follow every step carefully to prevent you from making a
mistake during the installation of the PlayStation 3, giving you instructions that carefully
guide you to the final result of the complete install of the system. The instruction set
demonstrates placing the 3 cords packaged with the PS3 into the right outlets and
configuration of the television with the console itself to represent a strong audio/visual
connection. The instructions you read will include terminology that may be unfamiliar,
which can be easily referenced in the appendix at the end of the technical manual to
give you knowledge on technology terms or keywords. The PlayStation 3, with patience
and determinability, will be worth the purchase when installation reaches completion.
What is expected when following along the instruction set will be delicate placement of
cables and cords, giving off a pattern of functionality obtained when all cords are in the
right position. Hardware tools or accessories will not be needed during the installation
process, only the 3 cords inside the PlayStation 3 box along with the player controller
you’ll use to navigate through the system’s content to set up and customize the main
features designed inside the PS3. Below will be the accessories needed for the
installation of the PlayStation 3, all essential to make sure you are able to access the
console.

this to understand potential health risks, damaged accessories, and proper methods for
handling the console.
Warning: If you open the cabinet section located at the bottom of the PlayStation 3, you’ll be exposed
to the dangers of electrical shock.
Note: Eye hazards could increase if optical products are used along with the PlayStation 3.

a doctor on whether or not it would be okay to use the PlayStation 3 if you experienced
any of these symptoms:
Dizziness
Disorientation
Altered Vision
Involuntary Movement or Convulsion
It is highly recommended for you to take at least 15 minutes away from the PlayStation 3
if the usage of the console extends further than four hours or more. Non-stop usage of
the console can bring sleep deprivation and other harmful effects towards your body. It
is also effective if you do not sit extremely close to the television when playing the
console since it could lead to vision problems occurring due to the position you’re in.
The Wi-Fi feature of the system could be an issue if you have a pacemaker, where you’d
have to talk with a doctor or the maker of the pacemaker in the event that you own one.
The PlayStation 3 can cause any environmental damage including fires if you don’t
inspect both the AC power cord and the AV cable to see if they have any exposed tears,
leading to potential harm for you and the people around the area the PlayStation
occupies. It is important not to place the console inside a closed space since it can
completely overheat based on the PlayStation 3 obtaining an overwhelmingly amount of
heat building up inside of the console.

the console, make sure to keep a firm grip on the PS3 to prevent it from dropping on any
surface. The disc tray on top of the console should always be closed even when you’re
not using the console because of particles that may travel through the tray and cause
severe malfunctions inside the system. The console should always be turned on when
downloads or system updates occur to prevent complications or corrupted data.

The internal temperature inside the PlayStation 3 is sensitive and requires your
constant attention. When the temperature starts elevating, follow these steps to ensure
that the system can return to normal:
1. Turn off the console when you notice the power light in front of the console
switching from green to red, indicating that the internal temperature is
increasing.

resume operations and the disc playing will be back to normal.
The batteries powering the PlayStation controller are infused with Lithium-Ion and are
highly delicate. In the event that the batteries leak out and you manage to come into
contact with the substance:
1. Immediately use a clean towel and water source to rinse the Lithium-Ion
substance off of your clothes, skin, or other items it landed on.
2. After the rinsing process, call a doctor to notify him or her on what you
experienced and schedule an appointment for further diagnosis on the
substance to make sure no serious damage can occur.
3. If the substance goes inside of your eyes, rush directly towards the nearest
water source to rinse the substance out of your eyes and afterwards call a
medical professional.
Figure 13. Lithium Ion batteries front and back.
