Occasional excavation carried out at Marsiliana d’Albegna in 1908 by the owner of the Marsiliana estate,
prince Tommaso Corsini, has brought to the light one of the most remarkable Etruscan necropolis in the
territory of Vulci. A new research project, promoted by the Soprintendenza per I Beni Archaeologici della
Toscana with the scientific direction of the University of Siena, has detected the profile of a new Etruscan
centre, probably mentioned in the literary sources as Caletra. The investigation of the settlement area and of
the surrounding necropolises, with monumental tumuli and chamber tombs, deserves special attention.
Current excavations on necropolises, such as the latest discoveries on the settlement will be discussed.
