Attached is a copy of a letter signed by the Associate Superintendent for Student Leaming and Accountability Rita E Goss which should be distributed to the parents of all eighth-grade students and any other students taking high school credit-bearing courses at the middle school level

If a parentguardian wishes to have a grade expunged for a high school credit-bearing course taken in middle school they must complete the Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School Form that is located at https wwwpwcsedu cmsOneaspx portalld=340225 amppageld=77 443 3

Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School

In accordance with Virginia state regulations PWCS Regulation 661-2 Section VII permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the students high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for the course The guidelines and procedures for expunging grades for high school courses taken in middle school are available by contacting your childs school If your student wishes to expunge a grade for a course completed during seventh or eighth grade year submit the form no later than the first day of the students 10th grade year Requests may not be submitted prior to completion of the course The information below must be completed printed and submitted to the appropriate principal Once received school staff will omit the grade for the designated course from the students transcript If completed after students eighth-grade school year submit this form to students high school principal If completed after students sixth- or seventh-grade school year submit this form to students middle school principal

Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) encourages students to challenge themselves by taking rigorous courses that prepare them for life after graduation One of the ways we do this is through offering a limited number of high school credit-bearing courses to students in middle school When students struggle in these courses we want to reduce the negative impact it may have on their high school transcript To that end the Regulations Establishing Standards of Accrediting Public Schools in Virginia provide parents with the option to request that grades and credits be omitted from a students high school transcript for any high school credit-bearing course taken in middle school

This provision applies to any student taking algebra geometry foreign language andor any other approved course for high school credit If a student has a grade omitted from the transcript in a high school credit-bearing course which is required for graduation the course must be repeated for credit to meet graduation requirements Ifa student has a grade omitted from the transcript in a high school credit-bearing foreign language course the course may be repeated to meet the requirements for an advanced diploma However foreign language is not a requirement for the standard diploma

En las Escuelas Publicas de Condado de Prince William (PWCS por sus siglas en ingles) recomendamos a los estudiantes a desafiarse a si mismos tomando cursos mas exigentes que los preparen para la vida despues de la graduacion Una de las maneras en que hacemos esto es ofreciendo a los estudiantes de la escuela intermedia un numero limitado de cursos con creditos de nivel secundario Pero si los estudiantes tienen dificultades en estos cursos queremos reducir el impacto negativo que puedan tener en su expediente academico de la escuela secundaria Con este fin los reglamentos que establecen los Estandares de Acreditacion para las Escuelas Publicas de Virginia proporcionan a los padres la opcion de pedir que no se incluyan en el expediente del estudiante las calificaciones de cualquier curso que otorgue credito de nivel secundario que se haya tornado en la escuela intermedia

Esta disposicion se aplica a cualquier alumno que tome algebra geometria idiomas o cualquier otro curso aprobado para obtener creditos de nivel secundario Si la nota que se elimina de expediente del estudiante es de un curso obligatorio con creditos de nivel secundario el estudiante debe repetir el curso para obtener los creditos necesarios para cumplir con los requisitos de graduacion Si la nota que se elimina de expediente de estudiante es de un curso de idiomas con creditos de nivel secundario se puede repetir el curso para obtener los creditos necesarios para cumplir con los requisitos de diploma avanzado Sin embargo un curso de idiomas no es un requisito para obtener el diploma estandar

Los padrestutores deben completar la Solicitud para eliminar cursos de secundaria tomados en la escuela intermedia y entregarla al director de la escuela intermedia o secundaria que corresponda Esta solicitud esta disponible en la pagina web de PWCS seleccionando el enlace Espanol arriba en el ado derecho y despues haciendo clic en Informaci6n Academica Tambien pueden obtener esta solicitud contactando al consejero academico de su escuela Si el estudiante desea eliminar una nota de un curso completado durante el 7deg u 8deg grado presente esta solicitud a mas tardar el primer dia de aiio escolar de 10deg grado de estudiante Las solicitudes no podran presentarse con anterioridad a la finalizacion de curso
