5. Trouble-Shooting When you are in trouble, it is required to review the usage and confirm the message, including restrictions/precautions.
Then, if there is still any unknown point, you can confirm the listed below before contacting us.
Table 5-1 Trouble-Shooting
No Situation Countermeasures
1 Not backed up. ・Confirm that it is the schedule start state.
・If the "Setting file create" is not executed in Backup Setting, its
execution is required.
・In Windows7, if the notebook computer (laptop) is used with
battery, it is not executed. Use the AC power without fail.
・Once the backup is carried out at a specified time, it is not
executed even if the maintenance computer time is turn back.
You are obliged to wait for the next backup schedule or
re-execute the "Transfer Setup"-"Setting file create".
2 There is a device memory file "EZLCHBUP" in
backup project.
・For device memory file, the latch data is only to be backed up.

6. Restrictions & Precautions The restrictions and precautions for use of this product are described hereinafter.
- 78 -
6.1 Restrictions
6.1.1 Common restrictions and precautions
The common restrictions and precautions are described hereinafter.
(1) Retry The timer start timing of the retry time that is set with "Configuration setting" tab is not from the backup start time, but from
the point of connection error. (Note 1)
For example, if the transfer setup time check =30(sec.) and the retry time of "Configuration setting" tab =60(sec.), the actual
retry time in case a connection error is detected starting backup from 23:50:00 is not 23:51:00, but 23:51:30.
Even if not connected to the MELSEC at the time of backup, when the MELSEC maintenance computer is turned OFF->ON
before reaching the retry time, retry is not executed. The setting information (retry time/count) is re-read, and backing up is
not executed until the next schedule time.
This operation is the same in case "Backup Tool" is exited->started from the icon and also in case the schedule is
stopped->started by the button operation.
Note 1: The time up to connection error detected is the time set in the "Time Check (sec.)" of the Transfer setup
screen (See " Fig. 3-7 Transfer setup".)
(2) Time of save folder The save folder date is the "schedule execution scheduled date" even the backup completion time is the next day.
For example, though the time with date, Feb. 17, 2014, 23:50, is specified, if the obtaining completion is Feb. 18, 2014,
00:20, the date folder is "20140217".
However, if 24 hours are passed, it is the backup implement action day.
For example, if the obtaining completion is Feb. 18, 2014, 23:51, though the time with date, Feb. 17, 2014, 23:50, is
specified, the date folder is "20140218".
- 79 -
(3) Backup target memory The relationship between the MELSEC real machine drive (memory) and the save-possible file is as shown below. In
addition, the relationship between the backup target and non-target, in the save folder, is as listed below. The device
comment can be specified by the user, on the backup setting.
Drive
File
Program
Memory Standard ROM Standard RAM
Card(RAM)
Note 1:
Card(ROM)
Note 2:
Program/Parameter O X X X X
Device comment O O X O O
Device initial value O O X O O
File register X X O O O
Device memory O X X X X
O:Backup target X:Out of backup target
Note 1:For Card(RAM), it is described as "Memory Card (RAM)" on the GX Developer/GX Works2.
Note 2:For Card(ROM), it is described as "Memory Card (ROM)" (or "Memory Card (SD)")
on the GX Developer/GX Works2.
(4) Data retention period The data retention period and capacity are not especially limited. It depends on the disk capacity.
However, in deleting the file due to disk capacity problem, etc., it can be deleted through the Windows Explorer.
(When the disk remaining quantity is less than 1GB, the file is not saved.)
(5) Maintenance computer shutdown Do not carry out shutdown during backup running. (Otherwise, the backup data is indefinite.)
In order to shut down the maintenance system computer, stop the schedule, or confirm that the current state displays
"Next Schedule Wait" in advance.
(6) Device setting change If the PLC parameter "Device Setting" of the backup target MELSEC is changed, re-implement the "Connection
Setting"-"Read" in backup setting and re-create the setting information. (See "3.3.4 MELSEC setting".)
(7) Password setting/Remote password setting The MELSEC memory with password setting or remote password setting made cannot be backed up.
- 80 -
(8) Bit device backup range If the latch specified range of the bit device is not 16 point unit, the latch-specified range back and forth part is to be backed
up in 16 point unit.
For example, if the latch specified is from B1000 to B1099, the backup range is from B992 to B1103.
(9) Backup of intelligent function module The intelligent function module parameter IPARAMQPA saved in the MELSEC memory "Program Memory" is only backed
up. The data set in each intelligent card itself is out of backup target.
(10)Connection channel The MELSEC not connection-set with GX Developer or GX Works2 cannot be backed up.
6.1.2 Restrictions and precautions for GX Developer
The following is the GX Developer format project and the restrictions and precautions for backing up.
(1) Project type/Program language The corresponding project type and program language are limited as follows:
Label setting : Only the project not used is supported. Label-used project is not supported.
Program type : Only ladder is supported. SFC,ST is not supported.
- 81 -
6.1.3 Restrictions and precautions for GX Works2
The following is the restrictions and precautions for backup in the project of GX Works2 format.
(1) Backup project format The backup project format is the work-space format project.
Saving in Single File Format project is not supported.
Even if the project written in MELSEC is Single File Format, it is work-space format project.
(2) Project type/Program language The corresponding project type and program language are limited as follows:
Project type : Simple project is only correspondent. The structured project is not correspondent.
Label : Only the project not used is correspondent. Label-used project is not correspondent.
Program language : Only ladder is supported. SFC is not supported.
(3) Work space name/Project name In the save folder mentioned in "3.6.1 Backup file confirmation", the work space is prepared, and in the workspace, the
project is backed up.
The workspace format folder structure is as shown below:
\\Backup top folder \ Date folder \ Group name \MELSEC name \Workspace name \ Project name
Workspace name : wsHHMMSS
Project name :"project" fixed
Example: C:\EZBackup\BackupGppw\20130626\GROUP1\MELSEC1\ws155112\project
(4) Same day save If the MELSEC with the same MELSEC No. is backed up on the same day, such as in backup test, etc., the work space is to be newly prepared, instead of overwrite. (Multiple "wsHHMMSS" is created below the same"\Date folder\Group
name\MELSEC name" folder.)
- 82 -
(5) Copy and move of backup file For GX Works2 project completing backup, copying and moving all in the MELSEC name folder are required to open the
GX Works2.
As recommended, open the GX Works2 project completing backup and execute saving as single file format project by the
"Save under a new file name", and then move a single file.
Fig. 6-11 Save as a Single File Format Project
Do not save the Single File Format project in the same folder as the GX Works2 project in the backed-up work
space format. In addition, do not replace the work space format project with the Single File Format project.
(6) Backup of device initial value only/device memory file only The PLC parameter is backed up also in case the backup target is "Device initial value only" and "Device memory file only".
(7) Backup range of C,T,ST device If the latch specified range of C,T,ST device is not 16-point unit, the latch specified range back/forth part is also backed up
in 16-point unit.
For example, if the latch specified range is from C1000 to C1099, the backup range is from C992 to C1103.
For GX Developer, the latch specified range is only backed up.
Click the "Save as a Single File Format Project", then saving in Single File Format

6.1.4 Restrictions and precautions for ACPU
The following is the restrictions and precautions for ACPU backup.
(1) Target MELSEC Only the MELSEC with project-written in GX Developer is able to be backed up. Then, even if the MELSEC with
project-written in GPPA is backed up, there is a possibility of difference being made between the GPPA format and the
program code, etc.
(2) Project format The backup project format is the GX Developer format only. The GPPA format is out of target.
(3) Program The program able to be backed up is the sequence/sub-sequence only.
SFC and microcomputer are out of backup target.
(4) File register For file register, the block No. 0 is only to be backed up. The Extension file register (Block No.1 to) is not to be backed up.
(5) Device comment The device comment is to be backed up as COMMENT(common), MAIN (for main program) and SUB1(for sub1 program).
(6) Change of memory capacity setting If the PLC parameter "Memory Capacity Setting" of the backup target ACPU is changed, re-implement the "Transfer
setup"-"Read" with backup setting, and re-create the setting information. (See "3.3.4 MELSEC setting".)
