Playagame:NoahSays(AversionofSimonSays) Firstdividethegroupintothreeteams,andhaveoneteambedogs,the othercatsandthethirdducks. Dogsbarkandbeg(armsraisedandhandspointingdownasifbegging forfood.)Catsmeowandpretendtolicktheirpaws(hands),andducks quackandwaddle(bendingdownwithhandstouchingshoulderslike wings.)Thengivetheinstructionsbelow. GuidelinesforSelecting/PlayingGames (10minutes)

(NOTE:Checktoseeifitisculturallyappropriatetoplaygamesinthechildren’sclass.Ifitisnotappropriate,youwillusethelessontotalkaboutlearninggamesoutsideoftheclasstime.)DifferentKindsofGames Manydifferentkindsofchildren’sgamescanbeusedintheclassroom. Usethislistandgiveculturallyrelevantexamplesofeachtypeofgame:

GuidelinesforSelectingGames: Formgroupsof4-5people.Askgroupstocreateofguidelinesfor selectingandplayingagameintheclassroom.Givethem3minutes. Havegroupstaketurnssharingtheirlists,oneitematatime,including givingareasonwhytheirguidelineisimportant.Writetheguidelines ontheboard.Goaroundtheroomuntilallideasareshared.Possible answersmayinclude:

Refertothe“NoahSays”gameplayedatthebeginningoftheclass.AskparticipantswhattopicsorBiblestoriestheycouldteachusingthatgame.(ObedienceorNoah)AskparticipantstocreatealinkbetweenthegameandObedienceorNoah.(Answersmayinclude:ComparethegametoourneedtofollowGodineverythingwedo.WhenwefollowHim,notonlydowehavefun,butwealsopleaseHim.OrastheanimalsfollowedNoahintothearktobesafefromtheflood,GodgivesusHisprotectionwhenwefollowandtrustHimwithourlife.Weneededtobeattentive;otherwise,wewillmissthecommand.)

CreatingaGame

Whataresomeofyourchildren’sfavoritegames?(Getresponses)YoucanchangethemintoBiblegamesorcreateacompletelynewgame.Thegame,“NoahSays”tookthechildren’sgame,“SimonSays”andadaptedit.Here’showyoucreateyourowngame(UsetheNoahSaysgameastheexampleforeachpointasyougothroughthem):

• Identifythemainpointofyourlessonoratruthfromyourstorythatyouwanttoteach.

• Thinkoformakealistofage-appropriategames.

MusicalChairs

Placechairsinacirclefacingoutward.Thereshouldbeonelesschairthanstudents.Startmusicplaying.Studentswalkaroundthecirclewaitingforthemusictostop.Whenitdoes,everyonescramblestogetaseat.Theonewhodoesnotgetaseatiseliminatedfromthegameorhastoansweraquestion.Thelastpersonleftwins.

Duck,Duck,Goose

Thisisarunninggame.Studentssitinalargecirclefacinginward.Onepersonis“it”.Heorshewalksaroundthecircle,tappingeachpersonontheheadandsaying,“duck,duck,duck...etc.”Whenthepersonfinallysays,“goose,”thepersonwhoseheadwastappedmustgetup,runaroundthecircletryingtotagtheotherstudent.Theonewhowas“it”triestomakeitbacktotheotherstudent’splaceinthecirclebeforebeingtagged.Makevariations,usingwords,peopleanditemsfromtheBiblestory.
