POSITION DESCRIPTION – Intake and Referral Worker SHLV and Safe Homes IDFV

REPORTS TO: Team Leader SHLV

GRADE/AWARD/LEVEL: SCHADS Award, Level 4

WORK LOCATION: Central Coast Family Centre

PROGRAM: Domestic and Family Violence Services

WORKING WITH CHILDREN: Clearance Required

PURPOSE

The position exists to provide flexible trauma informed intake, assessment, triage and referral services for the Staying Home Leaving Violence Program (SHLV) and Safe Homes Integrated Domestic and Family Violence Services (IDFV) in a holistic wrap around manner to meet the needs of the clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide effective, flexible, high quality trauma informed, assessment and management of services to individuals and families that access SHLV and IDFV.

Daily responsibility for the intake, triage and referral of clients;

Actively participate in the referral and intake process including but not limited to weekly intake meetings and team meetings;

Conduct relevant assessments and data required by SHLV and Safe Homes IDFV and their funding body;

Provide professional and informed advice and information to clients on matters such as Domestic violence, domestic violence laws and legislations, CatholicCare programs that provide DV services, Family Law information, relevant Central Coast services, Housing, Health, Social wellbeing, child protection, education and Victims of Crime;

Work collaboratively with local community networks and liaise successfully with a range of organisations and individuals;

Appropriately record and keep files in accordance with principles of confidentiality;

Maintain accurate statistics and meet internal and external reporting requirements;

Establish and maintain a positive, professional relationship with clients and their families.

2. Demonstrate leadership by

Attending regular supervision sessions and performance reviews;

Participating in professional development requirements including training opportunities as they arise;

Promoting the application of the agency’s policies and procedures;

Promoting collaborative teamwork including attendance at team and staff meetings as required.

3. Participate in the review of the programs performance including: Assisting in the review of the Intake process;

Participate in feedback and monitoring processes;

Participate in regular program meetings/practice reviews with program personnel;

Make positive contributions to the planning and development of the SHLV Program.

4. Promote and uphold the Mission, Vision and Values of CatholicCare Diocese of Broken Bay as a Catholic Social Services Agency by:

Effectively modelling CatholicCare Diocese of Broken Bay Values to staff, clients and others;

Upholding the policies and procedures for the programs that adhere to the expectations of CatholicCare, the Government funding bodies and industry standards;

Upholding the CatholicCare Diocese of Broken Bay Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics;

Adhere to WH&S standards for a safe workplace.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

To perform the job successfully, the Intake and Referral Worker should demonstrate the following competencies:

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

The Intake and Referral Worker must have the following:

Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate area eg, social work, social science, welfare, psychology, health, education or related discipline;

Demonstrated experience working with victims of domestic violence;

Demonstrated experience working and engaging clients in a trauma informed way;

Demonstrated experience in effective case management with families including the following:

Holistic, consultative and collaborative approach

Assessing and identifying needs to make appropriate referrals

Professional documentation and file maintenance

Knowledge of housing issues, domestic violence, child protection guidelines, child development and financial hardship:

Sound knowledge of DV, ADVO’s and the Domestic Violence laws and Family Law;

Highly developed communication and time management skills;

Experience working cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary team;

Current NSW driver’s license;

Competent computer skills.

Desirable:

Knowledge of the local services and referral pathways across the relevant LGA”s;

2 years’ experience in the Domestic Violence community sector;

Intake and assessment experience.
