The TS161 I/O structure may be further expanded to the following: Several expander units for the TS161 are available. Each expander module is equipped with its own processor allowing dynamic data capture and processing with transmission limited to change of state transmission. This ensures that the TS161 speed is not compromised/affected by the number of expander modules installed. To elaborate further, each of the expansion modules is equipped with a PIC microprocessor. Only once the Input/Output structures of the expander card have been processed fully is this information passed through to the main CPU module for further processing. This leaves more computing power for the main CPU enabling it to perform other control functions such as flood control, dam gate control etc. Furthermore the expansion modules may be placed remotely from the main CPU module and may communicate via an RS485, Fibre -Optic bus or wireless link effectively achieving a distributed I/O configuration, thereby minimizing I/O cabling costs.

A user interface that allows the display of the current binary input states, the current binary output states, serial communications activity and modem status to be displayed via a series of LEDS.

Prodesign's OPC server for Windows enables communications between the TS161 and any OPC client. Thus communications with most standard SCADA packages without the need for development of specific device driver s.

A variation of up to 12 expander modules may be attached, via a RS485 communication cable cable, to the main TS161
