Create Account – a user can create a new account if he/she does not have one

Blank Canvas – this is the initial screen that the user sees after logging in

Right Click Menu - this menu gives the option to create new categories or load categories that the same user has created before

All Films Category - this contains all films in the IMDB database and the statistics represent the averages of all films. Used primarily for comparison purposes.

Load Existing Category - displays a list of the names of the available categories

Name a New Category - this allows the user to name a new category. The only restraint is that the user has no other category with the same name.

Right Click Menu - this menu gives the option to build the category using the category builder, see recommendations, delete the category, or rename the category.

Category Builder - Part I of the category builder process asks the user to come up with five solid examples for the category

Adding Examples – After a user clicks the search button, the search results are displayed and the user must double click the correct film

Category Builder – the user must mark specific films as examples or counter-examples (or not sure)

View Current Category – At any point the user can see which films have been specifically designated as examples or counterexamples by the user. This allows the user to correct mistakes by deleting incorrect classifications

Other Likely Films - displays a best guess as to the other films that might belong in the category. Used for recommendations. These films are also included when calculating the statistics.

Categories - these are examples of some categories. The progress bar indicates how far the user has made it in the category builder process. It is suggested that the user completes all 4 steps of the process for the best results. Step 1 is adding the five films. Steps 2-4 are repetitions of marking films as examples or as counterexamples.

Searching for Films – users can add films directly to the canvas to compare them to other films or categories. Or users can add films to categories as additional examples.

Overall View - this is an example of an overall view of comparisons and statistics.

Single Category Bar Chart – If the word “Year” is clicked in the statistics pane while one category is selected, this graph pops up showing the number of films released each year in the category. Users can also click other words such as MPAA rating and month released.

Double Category Bar Chart - when a user selects the line between two categories, the statistics pane automatically compares the categories. If the user clicks the phrase “Month Released”, this chart will appear. Users can also compare year released and MPAA rating.
