International EVLT training and workshopThe International EVLT course and workshop at The Whiteley Clinic in Guildford.

The first day is dedicated to making sure that everybody is up-to-date with the latest theories of how varicose veins form and therefore what the best treatments are. Regardless of initial level of knowledge, a run through of anatomy, physiology and the new understanding of pathophysiology of varicose vein development is discussed, then talks of duplex ultrasound imaging and treatment with EVLT and other vein surgery techniques. The day is completed with a workshop where delegates are able to cannulate model limbs under ultrasound control and get used to the EVLT equipment.

The second day is live interactive operating allowing all the delegates to observe the technique of EVLT as well as phlebectomies and other local anaesthetic endovascular techniques whilst also allowing them to talk directly to Mark Whiteley as he operates. With remote controlled HD cameras in the roof, all of the techniques are shown in detail with the duplex ultrasound image being superimposed when necessary, the delegates are able to understand exactly how to treat even the most difficult veins.

By the end of the two days, delegates experience a master class of EVLT techniques, Prof. Mark Whiteley, Consultant Vascular Surgeon and course lecturer, said he was “thrilled to be able to teach the best techniques of using the VenaCure EVLT NeverTouch fiber with the 1470nm Laser to doctors who will be then going on to use this system immediately themselves”. Mark Whiteley also commented that “The VenaCure EVLT system is a very nice endovenous laser system to use, which is flexible enough to be used on a wide variety of patients but simple enough to get expert in using very quickly”.

Talking about the 2 day course and workshop, Mark added that “With the pre-course reading material, the representatives have a good understanding of the doctors requirements in learning the latest discoveries in venous anatomy and physiology – and how to approach treatment of varicose veins and venous reflux disease”.
