Through leadership development and multidisciplinary education that integrates principles of economic health, environmental quality, and social equity, the UCLA Leaders in Sustainability Graduate Certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to advancesustainability in their fields.

LiS is an Award Winning Program

Joining faculty from notable peer schools like Stanford Graduate School of Business, Harvard Business School and Michigan's Ross School of Business UCLA received the Page Prize for Sustainability Issues in Business Curricula.

The Page Prize encourages efforts to expose business students to state-of-the-art environmental sustainability knowledge.

LiS Alum Network of 164 graduates.

Alums are making a difference in the public, private, philanthropy and academic sectors.

• ENV 277. Spring quarter this year (normally winter quarter). Time TBA, likely in the late afternoon on Tu or W.

• Sustainability overview and current/applied topics, group simulations, case discussions, lectures, and projects.

• Instructors: Co-taught by LiS director and Madeline Brozen.

•Guest lecturers: members of the executive committee and advisory board; professors across disciplines.

• Projects should have measurable outcomes/some measurement of performance.

• Must address at least 2 out of 3 of the components of sustainability (environment, social equity, economics).

• The student’s role in the project must exemplify leadership- i.e. leading a team, creating the project, organizing events or actions.

• Projects, if born out of an assignment for a course or job, must go above and beyond the original work assigned. For instance, projects may overlap/coincide with a student’s capstone project, but LiS component should take project to next level for measurable outcomes.

• Students are encouraged to collaborate with other LiS students on a final project but each student will need to demonstrate the impact/outcomes of their work and their role in the project.

• Leading change on campus, for example by starting a rooftop garden and awareness raising initiatives such as the Green Screens Film Festival.

• Organized major events that bridge academic with sustainability professionals , including the Energy Innovation Conference and the California Clean Innovation Conference.

• Pro bono consulting, for example, for the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Sustainability or the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition to initiate, plan and implement the first Bicycle and Pedestrian Count for the City of LA.

• Founded a non-profit organization, the Los Angeles Sustainability Collaborative, that provides fellowships to LiS and other grad students in LA region in support of leadership projects.
