Gye Nyame is an Adinkra symbol of theAkan people of Ghana, West Africa. It istranslated to mean the omnipotence,immortality and supremacy of God. Thisunique and beautiful symbol is ubiquitousin Ghana, but is also widely accepted bymany AfricanAmericans as a symbol thatreflects their faith and heritage.
The most commonly used symbol for theBaha’i faith is the 9 pointed star. Thenumber "nine" is significant for Baha'ís formany reasons. Nine years after theannouncement of the Báb in Shiraz,Bahá'u'lláh received the intimation of hismission in the dungeon in Teheran. Nine,as the highest singledigit number,symbolizes completeness. The Arabicalphabet can be used to representnumbers, attaching a numerical value towords. The numerical value of Bahá is 9.
The Wheel of “Dharma” is one of the mostimportant Buddhist symbols, it representsdharma, the Buddha's teaching of the pathto enlightenment, since the early period ofIndian Buddhism. It is also sometimestranslated as wheel of doctrine or wheel oflaw.
This is the principal symbol of theChristian religion, recalling the crucifixionof Jesus Christ and the redeeming benefitsof his passion and death. The cross is thusa sign both of Christ himself and of thefaith of Christians. In ceremonial usage,making a sign of the cross may be,according to the context, an act ofprofession of faith, a prayer, a dedication,or a benediction.
The water symbol Though thisworldview, Confucianism, is recognizedas one of the eleven main living religions,it has no standard symbol or iconrepresenting its belief system. Quite often,though, this Chinese ideogram for water isutilized. It represents the 'source of life' inChinese philosophy.
“Om” is the most important Hindusymbol. Its prolonged intonation isassociated with the primeval soundthrough which the universe was created. Itis thought to contain all things. It consistsof three syllables — aum — which aresounded progressively from the throat tothe lips. The three sounds are consideredto symbolize many items, but perhapsmost importantly, the three states ofconsciousness – waking, dreaming anddeep sleep. The entire symbol representsthe fourth state, which is the awareness ofone's own spiritual identity. Aum is themost important mantra and is thuschanted at the beginning of many prayers,mantras and rituals.
There are no official Islamic symbols, butseveral symbols have a special place inIslam. The star and crescent is the bestknown symbol used to represent Islamand features prominently on the flags ofmany countries in the Islamic world,

Thesymbol is attributed to cultural diffusionand the spread of Islam to the OttomanTurks who ruled a large area and also putthe crescent moon and star symbol ontheir flag. It has since become associatedwith Islam.
The Jain Symbol is a congregation ofvarious symbols, each having a deepermeaning. This symbol was adopted by allsects of Jainism while commemorating the2500th anniversary of the nirvana of LordMahavira.
The Star of David is a generallyrecognized symbol of Jewish identity andJudaism. It is named after King David ofancient Israel and its earliest knowncommunal usage began in the MiddleAges, alongside the more ancient symbolof the menorah. Geometrically it is thehexagram. With the establishment of thestate of Israel in 1948, the Star of Davidon the Flag of Israel has also become asymbol of Israel and has becomeassociated with the Zionists.
In Native American spirituality, theMedicine Wheel represents harmony andconnections and is considered a majorsymbol of peaceful interaction among allliving beings on Earth. Within the MedicineWheel are The Four Cardinal Directionsand the Four Sacred Colors. The Circlerepresents the Circle of Life and theCenter of the Circle, the Eternal Fire.
The Khanda is an important symbol ofSikhism. In the centre of the insignia isthe twoedged sword which symbolizes theCreative Power of God. It is the SovereignPower over life and death. One edge ofthe Sword symbolizes divine justice; theother edge symbolizes Freedom. On theoutside we see two swords: the Sword ofSpiritual Sovereignty (Piri) and the Swordof Political Sovereignty (Miri). There mustalways be a balance between the two, andthis is emphasized by a circle inside. Thiscircle embraces Divine Manifestation,without beginning or end, neither first norlast, timeless, absolute.
The most common Shinto symbol, whichrepresents a torii (shrine gate). A toriistands at the entrance of shrine precinctsthat are regarded as the home of thekami. At the core of Shinto are beliefs inthe mysterious creating and harmonizingpower (musubi) of kami and in the truthfulway (makoto) of kami. The nature of kamicannot be fully explained in words,because kami transcends the cognitivefaculty of man.
This Taoist symbol represents the balanceof opposites in the universe. When theyare equally present, all is calm. When theother outweighs one, there is confusionand disarray. The two swirling shapesinside the symbol denote change, which isthe only constant entity in the universe.According to one saying, ‘yin’ (darker side)represents the breath that formed theearth; ‘yang’ (the bright part) denotes thebreath that formed the heavens. Anotherview is that ‘yin’ represents the feminineaspects while ‘yang’ represents themasculine part. Generally speaking yinand yan can symbolize any two opposingforces in nature.
