2017 Focus On Ability Short Film Awards

Schools Documentary section We’re excited to announce that the Support Unit’s documentary ‘YES WE CAN’ is a finalist in the NOVA Employment 2017 Focus On Ability Short Film Awards. In its ninth year, the Focus on Ability (FOA) Awards is designed to encourage film makers to focus on the ability of people with disability. As part of the unit’s Project Based Learning program in term two we decided to enter into the competition. In doing so, our students created a creative short documentary focusing on our abilities. These abilities included Social Inc, Agriculture, Food Technology, Physical Education and FAME at the Farms. There are two chances for Model Farms High School to win! 1. The Judge’s Choice Award (a SMEG Appliance Package valued at

$15,000) 2. Most Online Votes, which wins a Rebel Equipment Package $10,000

voucher This is where you come in! If our local community gets behind us, we can win the Most Online Votes! Voting starts 25 July and concludes 7 August: http://www.focusonability.com.au/. You can visit the focus on ability website to view the documentary and vote. In the mean time we will endeavor to upload it to the Model Farms Facebook page. Every day during voting, voters go in the running to win a $50 iTunes vouchers, but you can only vote once in each category. Model Farms High School has entered into the Australia & New Zealand Schools Documentary category. This year’s FOA competition hit a record number of 209 entries, including 101 school entries and 53 international films. Following successful screenings last year in New Zealand, New York and Zimbabwe, this year the competition received entries from a record number of countries (19), including Ethiopia. If we win, we get to attend a red-carpet gala awards night in Sydney on 6 September.

FROM THE P&C Comedy for a Cause

Instead of our annual trivia night, this year the Model Farms High School P&C is organising a comedy night with professional comedians as our lone fundraiser. There is a flyer at the back of the newsletter with all the comedian details.

Please come along; there is no need to bring anything, except for yourself and some cash. It’s a FUNdraising night; we’ll have prizes, raffles, food, and a range of beverages available for a donation. Come along for a fun night of fundraising for our school.

Please note this is an 18+ community event and we ask that no current MFHS students attend.
