In addition to completing their Doctorate in

Veterinary Medicine, Board-certified Veterinary

Specialists have completed an additional 3-5

years internship and residency training in their

specialized field and must pass rigorous

examinations to achieve diplomat status from

the American College of Veterinary Internal

Medicine. The ACVIM is the international

certifying organization for small animal internal

medicine and other specialists (www.acvim.org).

What is a Board Certified Internist?

UW Veterinary Care provides state of the art equipment for:

Endoscopy

Visual examination and biopsies of the stomach,

small intestine and colon

Foreign Body Retrieval from

the stomach and esophagus

Placement of feeding tubes

CT and Rhinoscopy

Visualization of nasal passages,

nasal biopsy and nasal fungal

treatment

Cystoscopy

Visualization and biopsy of the

urinary tract—collagen

injections—urethral stent

placement

Bronchoscopy

Diagnosis of inflammatory airway diseases, pneumonia

and aspirated foreign bodies of the trachea and lungs

Ultrasound Guided Biopsies of

liver, kidney, lymph nodes and

other organs

Laparoscopic Liver Biopsies are

also available

Radioactive Iodine Treatment for hyperthyroidism in cats

24 hour Critical Care Unit

Blood and plasma transfusions, oxygen therapy,

pain medications, nutritional support, EKG, blood

pressure, & fluid therapy.

Continuous renal replacement therapy for kidney

injuries and toxic exposure.
