Fujairah Anchorage/Offshore Anchorage• In 2017, the Anchorage hosted nearly 15,000 vessel calls of which
3,986 visited Fujairah Berths. The number of Anchorage positions has been increased to provide harbor facilities to utility boats and independently owned supply vessels.
Storage Capacity and Berth AvailabilityFujairah is:• Middle East’s largest commercial storage hub for refined oil
products.• The second largest bunkering hub in the world.• The world’s third largest storage facility for refined oil products.
Current capacity is 10 million cubic metres and expanding .• The Port of Fujairah has State of the art waterfront infrastructure.• Steps are being taken with S & P Global Platts to have Fujairah
recognized as a Price Benchmark.• Fujairah Oil Tanker Terminals (FOTT) operate a total of 9 main
berths, 14 wing berths & 2 dedicated barge berths, handling vessels ranging from 3,000 dwt to 200,000 dwt, and a VLCC jetty commissioned in September 2016 capable of handling both Fuel Oil and Crude Oil vessels from 87,000dwt to 330,000dwt. FOTT
offers total flexibility to the FOIZ storage terminals by providing access to any of the berths within FOTT via the two matrix manifolds. In 2017, FOTT handled a total of 2,567 vessels and a combined throughput of 63,025,512/mt of refined oil products and crude oil; average berth occupancy was reduced to 68.3% and average waiting time for vessels to enter FOTT was maintained at a best in class time of 8.9 hrs. Efficiency measures have been implemented to make further improvements on the 2017 results.
Port Expansion• In June 2017, a 35-year concession agreement with the Abu Dhabi
Ports established the “Fujairah Terminals”, granting Abu Dhabi Ports exclusivity to handle all containers, general cargo, RoRo & cruise ships at the Port. The Port’s capacity is expected to reach 1 million TEUs and 700,000 tons of general cargo by 2030.

On January 1, 2020, the IMO (International Maritime Organization) will be implementing a cap on the amount of sulphur in fuel oil used on board ships (without exhaust gas cleaning systems—or scrubbers). This upcoming bunker specification change will be the biggest upheaval the refining and shipping industries have ever faced. Indeed, it will have an impact on everyone involved in the supply of fuel oils, from crude oil producers to traders and terminal operators.
Emerging concern over the availability of once commonplace fuels such as HSFO, as well as clear concern over the quality of the fuel blends is adding to the confusion. It is also forcing many along the bunker supply chain to revisit their fuel procurement strategies around 2020.
Grappling with shifting regulations, new fuels and technology, as well as a transformation along the supply chain, it is imperative that blenders, ship owners, refiners and other key stakeholders stay at the forefront of market analysis and understanding. With IMO looking at “IMO 2050” CO2 reduction targets, it is clear that sulphur is not the only concern. Capital budgeting decisions of ship owners, refiners and blenders made today need to be seen in the context of not just 2020 but also for the next 15-20 years.
Attend FUJCON 2019 to be part of an active dialogue to engage in an open discussion of the most pressing challenges, opportunities and possibilities of managing and complying with upcoming regulations that are revolutionizing the business model of the industry. Listen to valuable insights from industry experts to understand emerging trends in the industry, and how to cope with the challenges towards defining your strategies to improve profitability.
