What needs to change... and why? 1 billion people are estimated to be living with some form of chronic disability. Unfortunately, this number is rising, due to the global increase of health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and mental health disorders. These health conditions all effect the prevalence and the nature of disability. Therefore, the removal of barriers for people with disabilities is even more important as these specific barriers (including lack of provision of services, inaccessibility to infrastructure, negative attitudes and lack of involvement) contribute to the disadvantages experienced by people with disabilities. Everyday, not just December 3rd, should be a day that people support and empower those with disabilities and work on removing all barriers necessary. What is IDPWD for?
