ALOGIA has held four World Congresses on Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology hosting some 900 professionals from many Latin American countries who treat these patients. Member countries include: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The goals of ALOGIA are to promote and develop pediatric and adolescent gynecology within the Latin American region using a comprehensive biopsychosocial approach to the reproductive health of young women. ALOGIA trains profession- als in diagnosing and treating the pediatric and adolescent gynecological patient and has published many textbooks as well as journals featuring research within the region. ALOGIA comprises 12 of the most populated countries on the South American continent, containing over 47 million ado- lescent women. ALOGIA now has a permanent representative on the Executive Board of FIGIJ and has selected Argentina, the country with the oldest and most members, to be the venue for the XIIIth World Congress of FIGIJ to be held in 2002.
