The Rutherford Cancer Centres are delighted to have established an exclusive clinic at this location.The Rutherford Cancer Centres are the UK’s first provider of high energy proton beam therapy – we specialize in cancer care.

Our services are based at 9 & 25 Harley Street and offer rapid access to initial consultations or second opinions in the heart of London’s famous medical district. The facilities are designed to give you seamless access to our network of private diagnostic and cancer treatment centres. Everything is available in house resulting in fast turnaround times.

Where are we in the United Kingdom?

Rutherford Cancer Centres operate a network of cancer centres nationally in the UK from four state-of-the-art facilities, providing all-encompassing cancer services for patients. We aim to provide holistic support to patients throughout their treatment. We offer easy access to supportive therapies that are provided in-house at our centres. These include access to: physiotherapy, dietetic services, reflexology and counselling. The additional services are designed to complement your treatment which can be an important part of feeling like yourself again.

Our centre locations are a short distance from international airports and major UK cities. Our concierge service includes seamless transport from the airport and accommodation, with our carefully selected hotel partners, for you and your family for the duration of your visit; allowing you to relax and concentrate on your treatment.

Rutherford Cancer Centres is a subsidiary of Proton Partners International. Proton Partners International is a private limited company, at the vanguard of advancing cancer care in the UK. Proton Partners International is developing and building a network of oncology centres across the UK known as the Rutherford Cancer Centres. It plans to open eight centres in the next four years and its first centre in Newport, South Wales, was the first in the UK to offer high energy proton therapy.

Proton Partners International has partnered with world-leading providers to equip each centre with the very latest and innovative technology. The Welsh Government’s Life Sciences Investment Fund is a key investor and institutional and private investors have committed to over £150m equity finance in the company.

Proton Partners International was founded in 2015 by Mike Moran and UK and international cancer experts, including Professor Karol Sikora, former head of the World Health Organisation’s cancer programme. Initial investors include the Wales Life Sciences Investment Fund managed by Professor Sir Chris Evans, the leading life sciences entrepreneur, and the Woodford Patient Capital Trust.

About us

What is proton beam therapy?

Proton beam therapy is an advanced form of external radiation therapy that uses high-energy proton beams rather than photon (conventional radiotherapy) X-ray beams.

Conventional radiotherapy works by using high energy X-rays to damage the DNA within the cancer cells, causing them to stop growing or die. Proton beam therapy can also be used to kill cancer cells. Proton beam therapy can also be used following surgery or alongside other cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy and targeted drug therapy.

Like conventional radiotherapy, proton beams can be targeted to the tumour site but unlike photons used in conventional radiotherapy they can also be made to ‘stop’ at this point, sparing the healthy tissues beyond the tumour. Because proton beams can be stopped where needed this allows us to treat harder to reach tumours at a higher dose and treat tumours that are close to sensitive healthy tissues.
