marK bIelby(England)Outdoor Instruction and Guiding
I knew if I left after just one year I’d be kicking myself for not doing the diploma, so I decided to stay.
The diploma is more in-depth, more challenging, more interesting and should open up more opportunities. As well as the compulsory papers, I’ve chosen to focus on rock climbing, mountaineering, sea kayaking and rafting. It’s busy, but I want to make the most of my time here and get the best qualification possible.
Whether I work here or overseas, I’m looking forward to applying my skills in industry.
bobby arey(India)Audio Engineering and Music Production
I was already working in the music industry, but knew I needed to fine-tune my skills and get some professional training.
I wanted a course that covered audio engineering and music production, as well as music theory and song writing. MAINZ was offering exactly what I was looking for. I like the way the programme takes an industry-standard approach, using tried and tested methods. It starts with the basics and then goes very deep. The tutors have an amazing breadth of experience and knowledge to share.
My time at MAINZ has been one of the highlights of my life.
thomas stoll(Germany)Jade and Hard Stone Carving
I was ready to change my life, travel and learn new skills. I knew New Zealand has a strong carving tradition and found just what I wanted at TPP. The carving programme offers a good mix of design and art, practical work and business skills.
Carving is my passion and carving hard stone opens a new world of expression. Every stone has a unique structure and I’m learning to work in harmony with the character of the stone to create each piece, to adapt my designs to reflect the intrinsic beauty of the material being used. It’s endlessly fascinating.

sebastIan greWe(Germany)Outdoor Instruction and Guiding
I originally wanted a working holiday, but then found out about studying outdoor education in New Zealand. As I have a teaching degree, I thought it was an idea worth pursuing and when a friend told me about TPP everything fell into place.
The programme is well organised and the tutors keep everyone motivated to succeed. Living in the hostel is fun; it’s a good place to make new friends. And the West Coast is stunning: the combination of sea, rivers, mountains and climbing opportunities made TPP the first choice for me. I came to get outdoors. I’m absolutely happy here.
seb carVallo(Ecuador)Music and Event Management
I came to New Zealand exclusively to study Music and Event Management at MAINZ. I wanted to do a music management course to complement my production skills and experience.
The programme has been everything I expected and more. The tutors are friendly, attentive and always ready to help. There are plenty of opportunities to work with other students and to volunteer on a range of events. The campus atmosphere is great; it has a real nice vibe.
I think I’m the first person from Ecuador to study at MAINZ. I’m really happy with the choice I made – I’d definitely recommend it.
KIrIll tIKhonoV(Russia)Audio Engineering and Music Production
Visiting the MAINZ Christchurch campus helped me make up my mind about what I wanted to study. I’ve always loved music and like the idea of making it my career – and the production side of the industry is very interesting, with good job prospects.
I like the mix of practical and theory, and how we start with easy things then gradually add more complex techniques. I study by doing and like to have plenty of time to practice and embed new skills.
I’m really enjoying MAINZ. I want to make the most of my time here, want to make it a success.
