Dear Branksome Hall Asia Parents and Community Members,
There is a wonderful buzz in the air at school as the Middle and Senior School students reflect on their Week Without Walls and all students dig deeply into their studies. The anticipation of the Chuseok Family holiday and time with family and friends also energizes our community as we approach the start of the Break.
Student dismissal Friday, September 29 at 3:00 p.m.Classes resume Monday, October 9 at 8:00 a.m.
Parents are invited to review school uniform needs with their children over the Break. Details regarding availability of the School Winter Coat and reminders to order small uniform items such as socks, and tights will be sent home after the holiday.
Mark the Date:Branksome Hall Asia’s 5th birthday is October 15. The Birthday celebration will be Friday, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Parents are invited to join the celebration.
Marg Thorsborne, Restorative Practice consultant, will work with our teachers during the October faculty professional developments days. Marg will offer a parent session on Monday, October 9 at 1:30-2:30 Branksome Hall Asia School Center. If parents are interested in meeting Marg and learning more about the philosophy and purposes of Restorative Practices (relationship building practices) we look forward to welcoming you.

교내 캠퍼스는 미들, 시니어 스쿨 학생들이 Week Without
Walls (경험의 주) 캠프를 마치고 돌아와 활기찬 기운이
가득하고 모든 학생들은 각자 자신의 학업에 매진하고
있습니다. 연휴 첫 날이 다가올수록 온 가족과 친지가 한자리에
모이는 한가위 명절에 대한 기대로 교내 캠퍼스는 더욱 더

10월 15일은 브랭섬홀 아시아 개교한지 5주년 되는 날입니다.
기념행사는 10월 27일 오전 10시에서 11시까지 진행될
예정이오니 많은 학부모님들께서는 참석하시어 자리를 빛내
주시기 바랍니다.
갈등해결 전문가인 Marg Thorsborne은 10월에 진행되는
교사역량계발 기간 동안 우리학교 선생님들과 함께 일 할
예정입니다. 또한 학부모님들을 위해 10월 9일 오후 1시
30분부터 2시 30분까지 Marg 상담사와 함께하는 시간도
마련되어 있으니 이 행사에 관심 있으시거나 갈등해결의
개념과 목적에 대해 자세히 알고 싶으신 학부모님들의 많은

BULLETINS
A FIRST FOR BRANKSOME HALL ASIA JUNIOR SCHOOL ATHLETICS On Saturday 23rd September five Branksome Hall Asia Junior School students participated in the Jeju schools athletics competition at Jeju Stadium. The competition level was very challenging. Branksome Hall Asia students won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100m. Students and parents were very excited and proud. Thank you to Mr. Ramar and Mr. Berghuis.
ANOTHER JUNIOR SCHOOL FIRST IN CROSS COUNTRYCongratulations to our JS Cross Country Academy Team that competed in their first JAC event against NLCS and KIS. We had some outstanding results against strong competition. With 63 runners in the Grade 2 and 3 race Branksome Hall Asia came away with 8 of the top 10 places overall. Our Grade 2 boys placed 1st, 3rd and 5th and girls placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th. The Grade 3 boys placed 2nd and 3rd and the girls placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th.
Our Grade 4 and 5 runners faced stiff competition with 60 competitors in their category, Branksome Hall Asia taking 3rd place in the Grade 4 boys while the girls took out 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th. The Grade 5 boys also did exceptionally well taking 1st and 6th place while the girls took 2nd, 6th, 7th and 9th. Our students represented the school in the best possible way emphasised by one of our Grade 3 students, Haoyue, stopping to carry a competitor from another school to a teacher for assistance before carrying on in her race. A special thanks to Mr. Drury for taking the time to help on the course and all of the parents for their continued support.
CHUSEOKCelebrations around the world often follow the changing of the seasons. As September gives way to October many festivals celebrate bountiful harvests, family and making preparations for the Winter ahead such Mid-Autumn (or Lantern) Festival in China, Harvest Festival in UK, Thanksgiving in Canada and USA. Here in Korea Chuseok is held on the 15th day of the 8th month on the lunar calendar to celebrate the Autumn harvest after a season of hard work. It is an important celebration that brings families together to honour ancestors. On Tuesday 26th September Junior School was treated to traditional dancing and games in a Chuseok celebration assembly.

9월23일, 토요일에 종합운동장에서 열린 도내 학교대항
육상경기에 다섯 명의 브랭섬홀아시아 주니어스쿨학생들이
참가했습니다. 경쟁은 치열했습니다. 우리학생들이 4 x 100m
경기에서 동메달을 획득했습니다. 학생과 부모님들이 함께
신나고 자랑스러운 하루를 보냈습니다.Mr. Ramar선생님과
Mr. Berghuis선생님께 감사 드립니다.
크로스컨트리 달리기대회
NLCS, KIS와 경쟁한 달리기대회에서 좋은 성과를 거둔
주니어스쿨 크로스컨트리 아카데미팀에게 축하를 전합니다.
치열한 경쟁 속에 놀라운 결과를 성취했습니다. 2학년과 3
학년 경기에서 63명의 참가자가운데 10위권에 8명이 BHA
학생이었습니다. 2학년 남학생이 1위, 3위, 5위를, 여학생이
1위, 3위, 4위, 7위를 차지했습니다. 3학년 남학생은 2
위와 3위를, 여학생은 1위, 2위, 3위, 4위, 5위, 7위, 9
위를 차지했습니다. 4학년과 5학년은 60명 경기에서 4학년
남학생이 3위를 여학생이 1위, 4위, 5위, 6위를 차지했습니다.
5학년은 남학생이 1위와 6위를, 여학생이 2위, 6위, 7위, 9위를
차지했습니다. 경기 중에 3학년 Haoyue학생은 다른 학교의
선수를 부축해 선생님에게 데리고 가는 멋진 스포츠맨쉽을
보여주었습니다. 경기운영에 도움을 주신 Mr. Drury 선생님과
변함없는 응원을 보내주시는 부모님들께 감사 드립니다.
추석
여러 나라의 명절이 종종 계절의 변화를 따라옵니다. 9월에서
10월로 접어들면서 풍성한 수확을 기뻐하고 가족과 함께하며
다가오는 겨울을 준비하는 많은 축제가 세계 여러 나라에서
열리는데 중국의 중추절, 영국의 추수 감사제, 캐나다와
미국의 추수감사절 등이 있습니다. 한국에도 추석이 있어서
이는 음력 8월15일에 고된 노동 끝에 수확의 기쁨을 나누는
큰 명절입니다. 온 가족이 함께 모여 조상을 공경하는 의미
있는 시간이기도 합니다. 9월26일, 화요일에 주니어스쿨은
어셈블리에서 전통무용과 게임을 선보이며 추석을 기념하는
행사를 가졌습니다.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTBranksome Hall Asia is a community of learners who are continually developing, improving and growing. This includes faculty professional development much of which takes place “in-house” with fellow faculty members learning from each other together. Sometimes teachers will attend conferences or professional development workshops outside school. When this happens we will arrange substitution teachers to teach classes. Prior to the substitution, teachers will be fully informed about the planned learning and about students that they will teach. Occasionally teachers may be absent due to illness or for other compassionate reasons, substitution teachers will be arranged to ensure continuous learning and care for your children.
STUDENT SUPPORT AND EXPECTED CONDUCTAt Branksome Hall Asia we are guided by the IB Learner Profile and Primary Years Programme Attitudes as we learn to live together and learn to learn together. Part of this learning involves teaching students appropriate behaviour and developing strategies that they could use if a problem of any kind does arise. Pages 4, 5 and 6 of the Junior School Parent Guide outline steps that will be taken to support students. I take this opportunity to encourage you to study these pages to share them with your child/children as we work together to enable students to learn from mistakes and to make adjustments to behaviours and to enable them to grow to be thoughtful, principled, kind, caring, responsible, resilient, respectful, resourceful citizens.
교직원 연수
브랭섬홀아시아는 모든 구성원이 끊임없이 배우며 성장하는
배움의 커뮤니티입니다. 교내에서 이루어지는 선생님들
상호간에 교육과정이 있고, 때로 선생님들이 학교외부에서
이루어지는 회의나 워크숍에 참가하는 경우도 있습니다.
이런 경우 학급에는 필요한 기간 동안 대체교사가 배정되며,
대체교사 투입에 앞서 학급에 대한 충분한 인수인계가
이루어지도록 하고 있습니다. 간혹 질병이나 개인사정으로
선생님이 결근하는 경우에도 대체교사는 학생들의 학업과
생활에 지장이 없도록 만전을 기하고 있습니다.
학생지원 및 올바른 행동
브랭섬홀아시아에서 함께 배우며 생활하는 학생들은 IB학생의
자질과 PYP 학생의 태도를 갖추도록 교육받고 있습니다.
학생들로 하여금 올바르게 행동하고 문제가 생겼을 때
사용할 수 있는 방법을 가르치는 것도 이 교육의 일부입니다.
주니어스쿨 학부모가이드북의 4, 5, 6쪽을 보시면 학생을
지원하기 위해 취해지는 일들이 단계별로 정리되어 있습니다.
이 기회를 빌어 자녀와 함께 그 내용을 함께 살펴보는 시간을
가져주시길 부탁 드리며, 학생들이 실수를 통해 배우고 올바른
행동으로 고쳐나갈 수 있도록 함께 노력할 수 있기를 바랍니다.
아이들이 사려 깊은, 원칙을 지키는, 친절한, 배려하는, 책임감
있는, 건강한, 존중하는, 지식이 풍부한 사람으로 성장해나갈
수 있기를 바랍니다.

1 - 4:For the first time, the Grade 9 Branksome Exchange included an overnight camping trip. Our Grade 9 girls paddled out several kilometers into the Algonquin Provincial Park to set up their tents and prepare their cooking fires. The view of the night’s stars was something these girls will never forget!
As part of the Arowhon Camp camp experience, the Grade 9’s were challenged by the high ropes course.

THE 2017 BRANKSOME HALL ASIA FALL BOOK FAIROn October 12th and 13th, the Library will host the Branksome Hall Asia Fall Book Fair. This event will be held from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Thursday and Friday during our first week back from Chuseok Break. Parent Book Club will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday. Book Fair items will be available at a 20% discount. If you have any further questions about this semi annual book fair, please email your questions to; [email protected]
HAIR COLOR AND THE BRANKSOME HALL ASIA DRESS CODEAll MS/SS students, please ensure that you return after Chuseok with hair color that meets the school’s guidelines as ‘naturally colored.’ This means your natural hair color. Mrs. Young will be happy to take you to her favorite hairdresser if you return with blue, green, or bleached blond hair!
REMINDER TO PACK WINTER CLOTHESAll students should be reminded to pack their winter clothes when they return from Chuseok Break. Before you know it the winds will be blowing and winter jackets will be necessary.
RESIDENCE HOUSES WILL OPEN ON OCTOBER 8thResidence student are reminded that residence will reopen on Sunday, October 8th.

2017년 브랭섬홀 가을 도서전
10월12일과 13일 브랭섬홀 도서관에서 가을 도서전을
진행합니다.
이번 행사는 추석 연휴 후에 첫 번째 목요일과 금요일 오전 8
시부터 오후 5시까지 진행됩니다. 학부모 북클럽은 목요일
오후 12시에 진행될 예정입니다. 북페어 아이템들은 20%
할인을 진행할 예정입니다. 이번 정기 북페어에 관련하여
질문이 있으신 분들은 이메일로 문의 부탁드립니다.
학생들의 머리 색과 브랭섬홀 교복 규정
모든 미들과 시니어 스쿨 학생들은 추석이후 학교에 돌아올
때, 학교 규정에 준하는 ‘자연스러운 색’의 머리 색을 따라야
함을 요청드립니다. 이것은 학생 본인의 자연스러운 머리색을
의미하는 것입니다. 만약 학생이 청색, 녹색 혹은 표백된 금발
머리 색으로 학교에 돌아온다면, 놀린 영 부교장 선생님께서는
본인이 좋아하는 미용사에게 학생을 소개하겠다고 하십니다.
동복을 챙겨야함을 상기시켜 드림
추석 연휴 후에 학교로 돌아올 때 모든 학생들은 겨울 옷을
챙겨야 함을 상기시켜드립니다. 그것을 알기 전에 바람이 불게
되고 겨울 자켓이 필요할 것입니다.
기숙사는 10월8일에 오픈 할 것입니다.
기숙사 학생들은 10월8일 일요일에 기숙사가 오픈할 것임을
다시 한번 알려 드립니다.
