The economic reforms, coupled with the integrative forces of globalization, made interdependence of nations along with India’s Asian neighbours inevitable. The East Asian Tiger economies and the radical shift in India’s economic and strategic circumstances caused New Delhi to pay more attention to the rapidly growing economies of South-East and East-Asia. Background and Scope : The success of India’s Look East policy ultimately depends on a set of multiple domestic, regional and global factors as it enters into a crucial phase of transition – some of which remain beyond the control of policymakers. The undefined nature of the Look East policy actually results from the fact that Indian policy-makers are yet in the process of negotiation from time to time through diplomatic channels with our neighbour nations. Under this backdrop, there arises a pertinent need for a dialogue to delineate on the future implications of the policy. The proposed seminar seeks to assess the views of the organisations viz., ASEAN, BIMSTEC economic agents in relation to their prospects of economic engagement with India. Furthermore, with the shift in the present government at New Delhi, the administration is focusing its prime attention on the East-West corridor and connectivity beyond national boundary. The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has signalled positively on the commitment to continue the nation’s “Look East” foreign policy in a world of growing Asian influence. The seminar would broadly cover the following themes: Panel Themes (not limited to) : i) India’s Look-East Policy: Achievements and Shortcomings ii) India-ASEAN: Cooperation in the new paradigm of politico-economic climate iii) India-ASEAN : Trade, Investment, Security, Department of Management North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Tura Campus, Meghalaya Tura: 794002 Organizes International Seminar On LOOK EAST POLICY: PERSPECTIVES FROM THE SOUTH EAST ASIAN ARCHITECTURE 26 th & 27 th June 2015 Important dates : Submission of Abstract: 1 st April 2015 Last date for Submission of Full Paper: 30 th April 2015 Intimation of Acceptance of Full Paper: 15 th May 2015 Seminar Date: 26 th & 27 th June 2015
