Faculty of Engineering, Technology & Built Environment @ UCSI UniversityThe Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Built Environment (FETBE) came into existence in 2007 as a result of a synergetic merger between the School of Engineering and the School of Architecture and Built Environment, which were established in 1992 and 2005, respectively.

Supported by decades of accumulated experience in the education and industrial sectors, the faculty has evolved rapidly to become one of the most prestigious and innovative providers of engineering and architecture education, not only in Malaysia but also throughout the region. Notably, the faculty offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that have gained national and international recognition.

One of the many attractive features that distinguishes the FETBE at UCSI University from conventional programmes is its exceptional learning and teaching environment, which is supported by state-of-the-art educational and recreational facilities.

Its philosophy envisages the creation of an entirely new system of engineering and architecture education that supports diversity and integration between programmes. To exemplify such diversity, the faculty offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate degree and diploma programmes in the following Engineering and Built Environment areas: Architecture Technology, Interior Architecture, Petroleum, Civil Engineering, Chemical and Petrochemical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Communication and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. On the other hand, in line with efforts to foster a culture of innovation, the faculty also provides its scholars with key integrations for major-minor specialisations, postgraduate studies and research.

The faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba is the oldest engineering school in western Canada. Founded in 1907, over ten thousand engineers have graduated with least one degree from the faculty, and have gone on to be our ambassadors, pursuing exciting career opportunities around the world.

The first 100 years of Engineering at the University of Manitoba culminated with the opening of the new Engineering and Information Technology Complex in 2005, providing students with modern teaching and research facilities needed for continued success. The current population at the University of Manitoba – comprising approximately 1300 undergraduate and over 400 postgraduate learners – enjoy well-equipped art learning and research facilities, an active student government and a multi-cultural learning environment.

A comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate engineering degrees are offered, led by the faculty that is passionate about teaching, research and innovation. All of our programmes produce graduates that can put their engineering knowledge to practice for the betterment of society and catalyse the economy to create new wealth to benefit societies in Manitoba, Canada and around the world.

The Faculty is also proud to host programmes that specifically focus on engineering education for Aboriginal Canadians and engineers with international qualifications.

International Degree Pathway The International Degree Pathway (IDP) at UCSI University offers students the flexibility of transferring courses undertaken at UCSI to various international universities abroad, enabling them to obtain a degree from our prestigious partner universities. This provides students with an opportunity to spend their initial years of study at UCSI and yet obtain a foreign degree. Generally, students are required to study at UCSI for 1 to 2 years and complete the rest of their studies at their chosen university overseas. Such flexibility enables students to expand their international learning experience at a lower cost.

Up to 2+2 Pathway into Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Manitoba This programme allows students to obtain a degree from the University of Manitoba. Students spend approximately two years at UCSI and then proceed to the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada to complete their final two academic years. Upon successful completion of their programme at UCSI, the students are guaranteed a place at the University of Manitoba.

Computer EngineeringComputer engineers design, construct and operate all types of computer systems

including digital systems, operating systems, computer networks and controls.

Many computer engineers work in robotics, microprocessor and firmware design,

as well as software engineering, digital signal processing, medical imaging,

data compression and, of course, the internet.

Programme Overview

Biosystems Engineering

Biosystems Engineering brings engineering to life by integrating life sciences with

engineering. Biosystems engineers help create new technologies for the wellbeing

of humans and animals, and the preservation and enhancement of natural resources

and the environment.

Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineers deal with everything related to electrical devices and systems,

and the use of electricity. They work in diverse areas, including power systems,

computer and communications. Electrical engineers employ their expertise in the design

and manufacture of electronics and electrical devices for a wide spectrum of applications.

Many are also involved in consulting, the planning and operating of power systems and

telecommunication networks, satellite communications, and biomedical engineering.

Civil Engineering

Civil engineers plan, design and supervise construction works, as well as manage and

maintain the built environment we live in. This includes roads, bridges, buildings, water

and wastewater treatment facilities, dams, and flood protection work. Civil engineers

have a significant impact on the quality of life and our environment, and increasingly use

new technologies such as Geographical Information/Positioning Systems, advanced

materials, remote sensing and monitoring in their projects.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is a broad and diversified engineering discipline. Mechanical engineers

use the principles of mechanics, materials and energy to design machines and processes. Many

mechanical engineers work in energy, material and mechanical design specialties such as

biomechanical, advanced materials design and application, alternate fuel and hybrid automotive

design, building systems, and pollution control processes. Others are involved in improvement

of health care delivery, product life and recycle design, engine design, air quality control,

aerospace design and technology development.
