TAYLOR WIMPEY/MILL APARTMENTS ART UNVEILING PRESS RELEASE DRAFT 8th JANUARY 2012
INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED ARTIST FAIZA BUTT RETURNS TO UNIVERSITY ROOTS TO UNVEIL URBAN-INSPIRED PAINTING
Internationally renowned artist Faiza Butt has returned to her university roots in West
Hampstead and unveiled her latest artwork, “The Harbour”, at the luxury Taylor Wimpey
Central London development, The Mill Apartments.
The painting, an interpretation of Sydney CBD from the harbour, represents the increasing
trend of building upwards as the property industry meets the demand of the world’s growing
population. It also signifies the global relationship cities have to each other and how they are
all experiencing the same kind of urban development.
Faiza comments: “I spent my university years in West Hampstead and have produced a lot
of memorable pieces of work since my time there, so it is great to return to see how far the
local area has developed.
“My work has always been inspired by urban popular culture and it is fitting that this piece
now finds a home in The Mill Apartments, as this development holds prominence to me as
an example of urban architecture and development.
“As the population grows and London expands, the pressure on the property industry to
create modern homes that use space effectively, grows as well. The Mill Apartments has
done just that: transformed a dormant piece of land into a beautiful habitable place whilst
giving this part of West Hampstead a facelift.”
Faiza, who has had her work appear in a number of well-known exhibitions across the globe,
including Art Dubai and Hong Kong Fair was awarded the Unesco-Aschberg Bursary and
was artist in residence for three months at the Bartel Arts Trust (BAT) in Durham, South
Africa. She has also shown at the prestigious Asia Society in New York City and will be
showing at the Venice Biennale in 2013.
“The Harbour”, which is now on display in the lobby area of The Mill Apartments, is
anticipated to be popular with local art lovers and will be available for residents and the
general public to come and admire.
Ingrid Skinner, Managing Director of Taylor Wimpey Central London, said: “We wanted the
lobby area at The Mill Apartments to have a focal point that intrigues residents and their
guests, but equally, depicts the meaning and significance of the overall development.
TAYLOR WIMPEY/MILL APARTMENTS ART UNVEILING PRESS RELEASE DRAFT 8th JANUARY 2012 “As Faiza’s painting will occupy the communal space it was also important for it to create a
positive ambience. The way Faiza has reflected light across the buildings creates a warm
vibrant atmosphere, and this reminds us of architecture’s importance to the greater
development of London.”
The Mill Apartments, the first development to be completed by the central London division of
Taylor Wimpey, has been designed to a high specification to meet the lifestyle needs of
West Hampstead residents, a prime area for young professionals and families.
The selection of one, two and three bedroom apartments, along with four two and three
bedroom penthouses, are fitted out with high quality products, including Villaroy & Boch
sanitary ware and Grohe utilities in the bathroom, Siemens kitchen appliances, integrated
