What does it measure?
▪ The knowledge and skills necessary to be college and career ready (and to SUCCEED in college)

What is included in each of the 2 section
scores?
▪ Evidence-Based Reading and Writing:
▪ Score on the Reading test
▪ Score on the Writing and Language test
▪Math:
▪ Score on the Math test WITH calculator
▪ Score on the Math test withOUT calculator
How is the test scored?
▪ Raw score
▪ Number of questions answered correctly
▪ No points lost for guessing or unanswered questions.
▪ Raw score is CONVERTED to a SCALED SCORE
▪ Scaled score range is 120-720 for each of the 2 sections (EBRW and Math) for a total score of 240-1440.
▪ Scaling process adjusts for small differences in difficulty amongst the many versions of the test.
▪ Makes it so scores across all test versions are consistent.

▪ In addition to the total test scores and the 2 section test scores, you are also shown INDIVIDUAL TEST SCORES:
▪ Reading, Writing and Language, and Math
▪ Scores range from 6 to 36 to reflect performance on the content area covered in each test.
▪ You will also see 2 CROSS-TEST SCORES:
▪ Represent performance on 2 areas across all test questions:
1. Analysis in History/Social Studies 2. Analysis in Science
▪ Scores range from 6 to 36 once again.

▪ You also receive SUBSCORES to give you feedback on your performance in the following skill areas:
▪ Command of Evidence
▪ Words in Context
▪ Expression of Ideas
▪ Standard English Conventions
▪ Heart of Algebra
▪ Problem Solving and Data Analysis
9th Grade Benchmarks
EBRW benchmark= 410
Math benchmark= 450▪ Benchmarks gauge college and career readiness
▪ Scores ABOVE the benchmarks mean you are on track for college readiness (shown in green).
▪ Scores BELOW the benchmarks mean you need some improvement in that specific area to be on track for college readiness (shown in red).
▪ Fall in the yellow region and you are approaching the benchmark!
National Percentiles
▪ Below your scores, you will see your National Percentiles:▪ Shows you how you
compare to all students who took the PSAT 8/9 on the same day▪ The higher the
percentile, the higher you ranked amongst all 9th graders nationally!
What does it all MEAN?
▪How you did on the PSAT8/9 is how you would have done on SAT if you had taken the SAT on the same day…
