Interprofessional Competencies in Geriatrics In the first section of this presentation, the University of Utah team will provide an overview of the "state

of the art" in interprofessional competencies nationally, followed by a non-physician's perspective on

these competencies. In the second section of this presentation, the University of Hawaii team will share

lessons learned from interprofessional curriculum implementation across a diverse range of learners.

Objectives:

1. Introduce a paradigm for IP competencies.

2. Define the "state of the art" in IP competencies, including geriatrics.

3. Discuss non-physician perspectives on IP competencies.

4. Share lessons learned from IP curricular implementation among medical students, residents, fellows

and allied health professionals.

Interprofessional Training in Telemedicine

Project ECHO

Description:

Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) is a novel telehealth program with a

mission of improving the capacity for management of chronic complex diseases in rural and underserved

New Mexico. This program initially was developed to educate interprofessional teams in the

management of Hepatitis C, but has expanded to educate interprofessional teams in 19 areas including

Palliative Care and Dementia Care.

Objectives:

1. To gain an understanding of the Project ECHO telehealth program

2. To determine if a similar program would be useful in your educational setting

AGE QI - Advancing Geriatric Education through Quality Improvement

Description:

The Advancing Geriatric Education through Quality Improvement (AGE QI) program is evolving from

our initial Reynolds supported program of team based geriatric education and practice improvement to

provide support to VA community based outpatient clinic (CBOC) Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT).

Our initial focus has been to provide medication management immediately following hospital discharge

using EMR-based clinical reminders and telehealth support with a geriatrician and a PharmD.

Objectives:

1. Present AGE QI background information and outcomes

2. Describe current VA rural health project focus on medication management

3. Outline future plans to integrate telehealth support for rural CBOC PACT programs

Ethnogeriatrics: Overview of Cultural Diversity in Geri West Programs

Description:

The introduction will be a brief overview of the diverse geriatric populations in our regions, followed by

an overview of UC Irvine’s Ethnogeriatric program.

Alternative Healthcare Delivery for Asian Pacific Islanders

Description:

This session will review diabetes group visits and memory clinic for Asian Pacific Islanders using

medical students, residents, and fellows. It will also discuss a culturally appropriate patient navigation

curriculum and training for allied health professionals conducted in the Marshall Islands.

Learning objectives

1. Understand the delivery of diabetes group visits in Asian Pacific Islanders.

2. Promote collaborative management of dementia using a multidisciplinary team approach.

3. Describe patient navigation curriculum and training in the Republic of Marshall Islands.

Ethnogeriatrics in Residency: University of Hawaii Family Medicine Program

Description:

Provide an overview of how ethnogeriatrics/cross-cultural sensitivity is taught to residents at the

University of Hawaii. My presentation highlights how this is done in the Family Medicine Residency

Program. It also touches on some of the research and interdepartmental collaborative efforts that are

taking place.

Purpose:

The purpose of this session is to briefly describe the US-Mexico Border region and familiarize ourselves

Examine ways in which our collective geriatric wisdom and experiences might be utilized to

This session will review the state of assessment in interprofessional education and discuss general

approaches and tools. The assessment and evaluation of a longitudinal workforce development program

with multisite learning and multi-disciplinary competencies will also be discussed.

Recognize unique issues of assessment in interprofessional education
